You're joking right? Texas steak house is generally rubbish.

OP doesn't say if he/she is talking about buying a steak from a shop or eating in a restaurant.

"Rubbish" is very harsh. It's grand, but over-hyped.

Best piece of fillet I've had in the Limerick region was in Gooser's in Ballina.

The Hamptons sells itself as a specialist in cooking steak but I've never been fully satisfied with it there.

Sash at the Pery does a beautiful ribeye steak one of the nicest around.

What kind of price would you consider mid-range? Most decent steaks are in the €20+ bracket.

For buying the Aldi Angus ones are top class.

Had a fillet there recently and it was woeful and and a total waste of money. I was jealous of my wife and her tacos.

It should be ilegal for them to have "Steak" in their name it's that bad

Maybe I'm not picky enough, but I've always been happy with the steaks I've had in the Texas Steakout. I take mine medium rare, and never had cause to complain.

Freddies Bistro do a great steak

Never had a steak in the steakhouse, but I'm surprised to hear that a place that apparently specialises in steaks is actually so poor at cooking them! I've always found the Mexican food (Tacos, Burritos, etc.) to be quite good. As for steak, I find the cornstore and hamptons to be good.

Brimstone at riverpoint do a great steak!

Personal opinion buddy. That's the fun of this website.

We had our staff Christmas meal there. The steak was very salty and the veg was also poor I found.

That's it. I'm going to try their mexican food next time. :D

Cornstore or Freddie's. Never had a good experience in Hamptons and the Texas stakeout is very hit and miss

I couldn't recommend either of those places for a steak, Texas is the most over rated restaurant in Limerick in my opinion!
Best I've had was in Bunratty Manor Hotel!! For buying steak I think O'Connells on Little Catherine St is up there with the best!!

Bella Italia on Thomas Street do steak on the stone and it's to die for.

Nicest steak I have ever eaten was in the Castletroy Park at a function a couple of years ago.
I know the op has said to eat out, but as regards buying one to cook at home, Aldi Angus fillet for sure.

Where did you hear this? It wouldn't be in my top 20 places to eat in Limerick. And I don't know of any Limerick folks who go there either. Certainly not the default place.

I have to say I can't understand all the Texas bashing. It may not be the best in Limerick but it is certainly not a bad place to eat. I've had fillet steak there two or three times and it has been quite nice. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal there.

From my experience it's a fairly middle of the road restaurant but I don't think that's bashing it. Just saying what it is. However, it's been a few years since I was there so I'll give it another go.

Best steak in Limerick is Freddie's, hands down, IMHO.

Can be difficult to get a reservation on short notice. If that's the case try Hamptons Grill!

I once overheard from another table in texas steak house:"I'll have the sterling steak very well done"

The steak in texas steak house wasn't good the one time I had it but I am very particular about steak, I never order it out now and when I want steak I'll buy a good cut and do it right at home. Steak in Grimstone was horrible, that was the last time I ordered steak out anywhere it was so bad and put me on the path to doing it myself.

Any time I had a steak in the Hamptons Grill it came out over cooked and tiny.

Nearly as bad as those who call the Texas Steakout - the Texas Steakhouse. :pac:

I'm as particular as yourself about my steak and I've had steaks in the Steakout a few times over the past six months and they were very tasty and cooked exactly as I wanted.

There's a bit of a trend here on the Limerick forum to knock the Texas Steakout, but if it were as bad as the crowd here say it is, it's hard to understand how it's so busy most nights and it's trading now for a long number of years. It must be doing something right - but maybe the Boards.ie connoisseurs are a more discerning bunch than the general public?

The Tripadvisor reviews don't bear out the many negative opinions posted here.
