    My Eir broadband is fine ( it might be a little slower than normal ) but the landline phone is dead. It was crackling for a few days , now its completely dead , no tone sound at all. Any ideas ? could it be a broken line ?

    Have you checked the connections in your home?
    Is the phone still good?
    Is the wire from phone to wall connection good?
    What about a dsl filter? is there one? have you tried bypassing it to check phone?

    Hi Johnboy , yes I tried them all , even tried different phone , it had a white telephone double adaptor( can see wires in the back of it ) I replaced it with a cream double adaptor from Woodies ( no wires seen at back of it ).There is a buzz sound sometimes , sometimes nothing , any more ideas ?

    Disconnect the broadband wiring and plug the telephones directly into the main incoming socket.
    Do you have extensions coming off the line?
    If so you need to ensure there is not something the matter with that wiring or socket/s.

    ADSL:
    Tech f'cked up in the exchange
    Something failed and is holding line open (Monitored Alarm, Panic Button, Phone)

    VDSL(eFiber):
    Break anywhere between cab and exchange
    Tech f'cked up at the cab (common)
    Again a hw failure

    Call and have them do a line test, it'll be instantly apparent where it is based on line capacitance (if the rep knows how to read it).

    Have you tried ringing eir? could be a line fault. Had a similar case before, broadband working, phone not working.
