Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is the Leaf granny cable weatherproof?

    Hearing conflicting reports on this. Can it be left to charge outside in the rain for example? (With the 3 pin plugged in safely indoors)

    Yes, it can. As long as no water can make it's way along the cable to the 3 pin socket.

    It's splashproof, not waterproof. Probably fine for short term use but a proper chargepoint is much better.

    Chargepoints are not waterproof either. As in they are typically IP rating 54, with the 4 relating to water (the 5 is relating to dust). This means it can stand any kind of rain, but not a water hose, a power washer and of course you can not submerge it into water!

    And it's worth noting that your current iPhone/Samsung is IP 67 or above, so they last longer in the rain than the charger :D

    iPhone 7 is IP 67, Apple is always a few generations behind the tech of the likes of the Samsung (IP 68) :p

    And yes both can be submerged in water for 30 minutes. Nice work!

    Granny lead is designed to be left outside exposed to rain snow ice sleet and normal conditions expected and ip54 is appropriate for this.
    Like your car, it can't be submerged in water, I don't see why anyone would expect it to be.

    Charging a car is no more complicated than plugging in a mower or outdoor lights.
    Caravan parks and marinas don't have any of the safety features that chargepoints and granny leads have.
    Marinas are literally surrounded in water.

    Evses are protected by RCDBOs. , marinas are protected by RCDBOs. since water instantly trip RCDs. Marinas are as safe as evses. ( uncept USA )
