Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Decent backup regime and at worst you lose a days work. If your working on anything important then as suggested, hourly backups to a USB stick.

Worst case, if you really need the data, put the HD into a caddy and give admin access to the drive from another. What ever you do don't open the same file that caused the incident or you'll have bricked two HD's.

I've no Caddy, but I do have a slightly rusty Transit. I've put the HD into that. Thanks for the tip. Is it the metal van body that protects the data?

I read on another thread that even Trump and NASA were involved. I don't know who to trust tbh. There isn't even any point asking your GP - they always say there's nothing they can do about viruses. This has me very worried.

That would have been great ! I mean no, I mean ...

Serious question : can you only get infected if you click on a link in an email ?
(I don't click dodgy links in emails *smug*)

According to the article it is a worm that infects any vulnerable computers in a network. No need to click links or open attachments.

    It's everywhere.:(
Your only hope is feck the PC into a van. Lock, stock and barrel. I read that on the internet - some techy chap said it. Use a neighbours van if you don't have one of your own. This sh*t is serious. :(

I think LinkedIn has been hacked - I went on, planning on selling Caddies and Incas to everyone I know there and it's going "Ohhh, It's not you, it's Us". So either they've dumped me or NASA, Trump, the NHS and the shadowey fcukers have hacked them too.

Keep Windows up to date to prevent it.
Only those who didn't apply the March security update are vulnerable.

My understanding is that it is currency converted to data which is used to trade online and buy services, drugs, gambling etc., the pro being that it is difficult to trace and can be used on the 'dark web' where all these lovely people hang out. It's a subversive economy and a volatile one, but so is our own but less traceable. The founder of bitcoin has withdrawn from digital society, has become a political activist of sorts and really hates what he created.

I just checked and I had one March security update, but a second one in March hasn't worked (I may have repeatedly refused to let it :o).
So I'm installing it now, better late than never !

Worth noting some of us have an interest in bitcoin for other reasons too. I own bitcoin but I've never been on the dark web.

You are correct, I confused the founder with someone else. I was thinking in the context of the breaking story why bitcoin is the preferred currency of the hackers.
