    Hi all,

I need to make an apple tart this week, from scratch, pastry included and I am looking for some recommend recipes for it.

I made one ages ago, and it was grand, the pastry wasn't sweet though and I'd like it to have a bit of sweetness to it. I can't remember what recipe I used hence why I am looking to you for your recommended recipes.

It'll need to serve 10-12 people, small slices.

Would greatly appreciate any help with this, thanks so much.

There's a recipe over at the Cooking Club:

how did you apple tart go?

probably too late posting this for you, but I use the odlums recipe
    http://www.odlums.ie/recipes/apple-tart/
i like their tip to freeze the margarine.
I've added icing sugar on occasion to sweeten the pastry, because I saw Nevin Maguire do it.

There's a thread here discussing the apple types:

You could just use cooking apples and play around with it after a while.

Edited to add, if you slice the apples thinly you don't need to stew first.

I've actually modified a few recipes until I found a sort of bastardised version of my own tart pastry.
    9oz plain flour
    4(ish) oz of butter*
    1 egg yolk.
    1oz of icing sugar
Pinch salt (maybe 1/3 level tsp)

Then instead of plain water, I use half milk, half water.

*I say ish because it depends on the heat in the kitchen when I'm cooking, I use less if it's a warm day.
