Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

well all know the irfu never makes mistakes..

no problem with it leaving dublin, problem if the pitch isn't upto standard.

Im sure it is. Of course IRFU make mistakes. Ive criticised them plenty and was highly critical of move of virtually all internationals to Dublin as rest of country got virtually no chance to see internationals. Ive criticised some of their coverage of the league at senior level but think clubs need to be better at covering games at their own level in terms of postering/working with local radio stations for coverage

previously it has not been, that is the point, unless you have forgotten some of the 20's games there.

Its a heavily used club pitch. It has improved and even if gets poor weather and is bad for a game so what?
Not a big deal if pitch is safe and able to carry a game.

I don't care if its a heavily used club pitch, if the pitch ruins the game it's a big deal, I would have thought this was obvious.

Well thats just wrong. UCD have that title wrapped up by a country mile every year.

What is ruining a game anyway?
Its better off for irish rugby not to have all internationals in Dublin.

Based off the word of one poster the IRFU are exploring the possibility of thinking differently, not exactly the same.

Well maybe u should get down to Athlone and have a look at the pitch because I can tell you year round it’s in good condition , just because you seen it in the pouring rain once or twice in bad condition , look at any pictures u want of it it’s a quality pitch and maybe if you got out more you’d see that

Based off UCD being a great surface year round for football never mind rugby.
Having played on every 1A surface it's not even a contest, UCD has the best surface by an absolute mile year on year

Just out of curiousity could anyone post a link of any time when dubarry park has been a ‘mud bath’ if ye were as loyal to your ail clubs and actually travelled to games in dubarry Park you will find that the main pitch is an excellent surface and always has been , here are some pictures I found of it while searching

As they should with there finance but dubarry Park if you’ve ever walked on it is as good if not better , unless you seen otherwise while watching the tv 5/6 years ago

It is normally very good. I can picture one 20s game around 2012 when it was definitely a very wet muddy game, not sure if the pitch was particularly bad though

I've played on it and it is very good but I'd still have UCD bowl ahead of it

The point being made is not that Dubarry is always awful nor is it that games should not be moved out of Dublin. The logic of moving games outside of Dublin is clear and hasn't been argued against. It should be one of the most important parts of the decision making process that the pitch is going to be up to scratch.

But for most of the 20s internationals there the pitch has been more than up to scratch.
For some games where there was poor weather the pitch deteriorated and thats natural

Agreed - it's also natural to have bad weather during the 6 nations. That's not anyones fault. Sports ground which suffers the same weather has not ended up in that state in a long time though nor has independent park.

Musgrave Park and Sportsground are owned/managed by Munster and Connacht so have professional groundsmen working on them daily. Not case with Buccaneers ground.

The sportsground was basically a swimming pool during one of the Zebre matches last year.

Correct which is why they should be ahead in the ranking as venues. No one has said this is some kind of a failure by buccs.

Not now but plenty did when the move of games to Donnybrook was originally announced.

Thats all very well on a sunny day in September. However, when it pours in Athlone, that pitch is kindly described as 'Yielding'

    959671-1024x771.jpg

It's a fine surface but just doesn't drain very well.

Great result for munsters sat -mary started well played good football and went 12 nil up, we responded with a jack lyons try (typical sniing scrum half job close in) nip and tuck rest of half, on the button of ht marys had a guy binned we got pen under posts took the scrum and pushed thm over, capitalised on yellow and scored two tries from alan kennedy and fine backline move for evan ogorman to score, marys to their credit responded with 2 more to get a crucial bonus point for themselves. Very good performance really played well

Credit to supporters who went up and foregoed the international, some of them got there late due to train delay and ended up going by bus.

I think we are probably safe now, assuming garryowen get bp win tomorrow we 4 points off playoffs, if we beat con next week(which will be very hard to do) we give ourselves a shopt at making playoffs.

Looking at other limerick clubs shannon still in contention for promotion, crescent nailed on and, garryowen in great position to make semis, bruff and thomond in the hunt for promotion too. Hopefully the limerick clubs get promoted ,

and good luck na piarsaigh tomorrow in the hurling

was in buccs ground when we played there earlier in season - fine pitch good surface, mind you weather was better , pitch in marys was excellent last week despite the weather -barthe professional pitches its the best ground in league -the terrace adjoining clubhouse is excellent

on location for ireland under 20s games , how about waterford rsc - they get no big games in waterford so maybe there

Hearing down in Limerick that Thomond have suffered a massive blow in 2C. Darragh O'Neill (top try scorer in the division) got a red card versus Malahide for a dangerous tackle and the IRFU suspended him for 4 "meaningful" matches which is effectively a 9 week ban. Absolute madness if true. That's over 20% of the season of a suspension. When has suspensions moved from weeks to matches?

Well its most likely a 2 month suspension and there is always a caveat to suspensions that they cover a certain amount of games. Suspensions for a red most often start at a month but all depends on what the offence was.
If he got 9 weeks he would have got a medium to long term suspension and it will have to include those 4 gsames.

A number of years ago. Meaningful matches means any match the player could/would realistically have been selected for. It makes a lot more sense in reality then players getting suspended for 2 or 3 weeks and depending on time of the year missing no games.

  • Registered Users Posts: 691 ✭✭✭$ausage$

I remember a player getting a ban for 6 weeks reduced to 5 for good behaviour after the game. We didn't have a game for 6 weeks.

I suppose it means that you cant go buck mad last game of the season and be banned for the off season.

    [font=Calibri, sans-serif]1A
    Friday
Lansdowne v St Marys - Hopefully we can bounce back from defeat to Garryowen - Marys seem to be improving
Terenure v Clontarf - Terenure in better form than Clontarf at the moment
    Saturday
Trinity v Buccaneers - Think Trinity will add to Buccs misery - Buccs can't catch a break at the moment
UCD v Garryowen - Garryowen form continuing to pick up where as UCD have lost their way but suspect UCD might bounce back with a win this week
Young Munster v Cork Con - Great game in prospect Munsters really need to win to push into top 4 and are in great form since Christmas so will go with them this w'end

    1B
    Friday
Shannon v UL Bohs - Shannon to keep pushing Hinch for automatic 1A slot
    Saturday
Ballymena v Naas - Was shocked by Ballymena's big loss to UCC, tough trip but could be rewarding for Naas
Ballynahinch v Banbridge - Big Ulster battle which I expect Hinch to narrowly win
Old Belvedere v Dolphin - Belvo can't afford to lose this as it would surely rule them out of a top 4 challenge so thing they will win
Old Wesley v UCC - UCC pushing for promotion whilst Old Wesley looking over their shoulder at 3 teams below them. Going with Old Wesley on this

In 1A I see Trinity beating Buccaneers narrowly and essentially sealing Buccs faith as they'll be 8-10 points adrift
Lansdowne shouldnt have too much issue against Marys but all depends on which St Marys side turns up. If its the same kind of performance as Marys put in against Cork Con then Lansdowne will have a tough game on their hands but if not then Lansdowne will comfortably get the 4 points as they bounce back from their first loss of the season last time out.
Terenure are only ahead of Clontarf because they've obtained a few more bonus points both try scoring and losing by 7. Clontarf won the first fixture by 12 points but i feel this game will be closer than that but Terenure to win this time out.
Young Munster beat Con by narrowest margins in Temple Hill back in November but i think Cork Con may edge it this time around.
Garryowen beat Lansdowne two weeks ago before comfortably dealing with Trinity last weekend and i feel they wont have any issues against UCD in belfield as they keep the push on for a home playoff spot.

Ballynahinch and Banbridge is big game in division 1B with 1st hosting 3rd. Ballynahinch won the first game before christmas but a lot can depend on what provincial players can be available to each side. Ballynahinch to win by a score.
Shannon host Bohs in Thomond park tomorrow night in Thomond Park derby. Form can often go out window when talking about games like this but Shannon should win this by 7.
Bottom side Dolphin travel to Dublin to face Belvedere who are still harbouring hopes of making promotion playoff spot. The Cork side are picking up bonus points in defeat nearly every week and drew last week but i cant see them getting a win in Anglesea Road.
Ballymena are 9th two points off safety from relegation playoff spot and host a Naas side who's promotion prospects are beginning to slip now theyre 8 points off 4th. Ballymena's need to win is greater and i think they will edge it.

Nenagh Armagh is big game for the top of division 2A with the home side looking to bounce back from a poor loss to Galwegians last week. Theyve lost ground on the top two now and while still very likely to be in the playoffs for promotion they may have lost their shot at a home playoff game.
A win for the away side will keep them in touch for a playoff spot.
Corinthians are now bottom after their city rivals overturned Nenagh last week and it will be very tough for them this week as they host Highfield who are chasing the top spot.
Malone, who are top, host Blackrock and should win comfortably against the Dubs side who are in the fight with Greystones and the two Galway sides to avoid relegation/playoff.

Its top against Bottom in 2B when Crescent host City of Derry. Long trip for Derry and could end up very big defeat for a side who look like theyve already given up on the season.
Rainey Old Boys host Dungannon and with the away side having little to play for i can just see a home win. third placed Barnhall host Belfast Harlequins who are in 9th and nine points adrift of safety and the home side should get the win to keep up their form up for the playoffs.

Bangor hosting Malahide is top game in the bottom division and any slip by Malahide whove done very well in their first senior season could see second placed Thomond over take them to go top. Bective beat Tullamore in the last round to overtake them at the bottom and there shouldnt be any change this week with Bective facing third placed Sligo out west and Tullamore at home to mid table Omagh. But any slip by Bective or Seapoint and Tullamore could overtake them and get out of the relegation/playoff spots.

Buccs’s a shambles and deserve to go down , 21-0 up last week and lost , 14-0 this week and lost , we’re leading ym by 14 with 15 to play earlier in season and lost , there training and endurance isn’t up to this level

Not as bad as Derry shipped 104 points now that's a disgrace

True, although at least they fulfilled the fixture and made the 720km round trip knowing they would get hammered.

Slight bit harsh. Not sure its exactly training and endurance that isnt up to it.

17 tries. Club looks in real trouble

Yeah wegians looked to have things changing in big way. Theyve been losing games they should have won and have learnt from them. Corinthians are in trouble but a lot still to play for with a win for any of bottom 4 to change things up quite a bit.

It was one day of drama in tom clifford park sat,

con milled us first 3 scrums, scrum 4 rock solid and from then our it was our scrum driving them back, 3 all half time, then went 8 3 up with a very good jack harrington try (see clip below), con responded with a penalty and gerry hurley try to go 11-8 up. We were camped in their 22 last 7/8 mins. With 5 to go had kickable penalty do tie it up, boys went for lineout onthe 5m, con stole it cleared to 22. won next lineout and got another penalty on injury time, from the lineout gavin coombes caughts and went over, cue wild celebrations playes and supporters. Kicked a crucial conversion to take it over 3 points. Last 2 minutes were agonising we gathered posession pick and jam pick and jam kept at ref re time, won a penalty and kicked out. Great performance great victory, fine crowd, super atmosphere, biggest of the season id say, massive displays from tynan and coombes, Keeps us in top 4 hunt for another couple of weeks, very hard one now in 2 weeks time v trinity they beat us tome and away last season and at home this season

Holy Crap Balls have you seen the top of 1b? DAM I didn't think it was that tight.
Had a quick look at fixtures top 3 don't play each other again so will prob be all about BP or LBP. Makes it all a bit more exciting now there is no point in watching Ulster.

Having said that with Ulster's injuries now maybe it will deplete the two Ulster clubs in the race.

Shannon could have done with winning against Bohs - need to step up our game if we want to win the league.

Great to see the crowds at an AIL match in the killing fields

And Banbridge from what I heard it was a last min job.

I also see Banbridge where 14-0 down and then came back to win and get the BP. Obviously late bloomers. Not sure if they had any ulster boys playing or not.
