UB Visa Debit Card declined twice in Aldi

    Current a/c available balance. Over €300

    Stuck card in as per usual and when the usual message came up 'please remove your card' I took it out.

    Checkout girl tells me it didn't go through.
    Tried again and she tells me it's been 'declined'

    Was going to pay in cash but only had €20 on me.

    I asked her can we try again (BIG QUEUE BEHIND ME)

    This time it went through no problem.


    Any guess why my card was declined at all, considering, that when I got
    my aldi receipt, it had a print out of the two declined attempts, which showed all the correct details, amt to be debited, card read, etc etc :confused:

    Issue communicating with he Bank IMO. Poor telephone lines I suspect. I had the same issue a few years ago in a restaurant. Stood up and moved the portable card reader closer to its 'base unit'. Went through. Waiter said it was a common problem.
