If you sign up with the same email address / credit card / address.

Even if you sign in from the same device or location.

IP addresses. Mac address, email address lots of different ways. Same way if you access a website you will start seeing lots of ads relating to it on facebook and the likes

Well, you (sort of) can by spoofing.

Although, I wouldn't risk it if you didn't know what you were doing.

I'm assuming you're talking about the IP address (192.168.x.x).

Ah... but all your doing is changing the Device ID on your own wifi. You're still going to get an Irish external IP (unless there's a high chance I'm completely wrong due to lack of caffeine in my system round about now).

For example if you go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ I'm sure it's going to give your location.

So, if the free trial of a site is location based they still have determining factors that you've already signed up.

I noticed that you're downloading the file to install. Some will also create and write to a file that will store the license information of the program / site.

MAC information isn't available to the website*

Are you changing your external IP or internal IP? If you visit http://www.whatsmyip.org/, either side of the change, is it changing there?

There are plenty of other methods available to them to uniquely identify a user, and you have no way of knowing which one's they're using

*in the vast majority of cases

Internal IP is what's assigned by your router to devices on your network, typically starting with 192.168. Your external IP is the IP that web servers see you as having.

A VPN or proxy is unlikely to be much use for a free trial if the site is in any way popular.

When I use a vpn will it change both my internal and external ip?

Your internal IP does not matter, the website cannot see it. When you use a VPN, the website will see your IP as coming from the VPN.
