Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If City sign Sanchez for £20mil & Raheem Sterling, it'll be an absolute bargain and prove that Wenger has actually lost the plot (but we all knew that a few years ago)

Sterling cost £50m two years ago (was it three?) in today's money that's easily £70m.

Even looking at the £50+£20, is Alexis not in his final year? £70 seems high for that.

I doubt Aguero would be interested. Though I imagine Wenger would like another high profile striker to drop for Danny Welbeck in big games.

Also Sterling is 23 in December, Sanchez is 29 also in December.

I will be shot for this, but I don't get the Sanchez love at all. He is great on the ball but all the moaning and groaning, head-shaking, woe-is-me having to play on this crap team stuff. What does that do to his team-mates? I think Wenger should snap City's hand off for that deal. (Not that even signing Messi would save Wenger's reputation at this stage).

Sterling has started well for City this season. And is young.
Who else would Arsenal be in a position to bring in at this late stage.
I'd say it's paramount that he is part of any deal for Sanchez

Theres too many Keita's and Dembele's :pac:

Getting Sterling would be a good deal for Arsenal. He has a decade left at top level whereas Sanchez has substantially less and is in his final year of contract. Sums up the wanting of instant success by City and Pep... not that it will be any solace for Arsenal fans losing Sanchez.

    Doesn't seem so.

It seems the money is there for Lemar and VVD.

It is likely that Coutinho will leave next summer though I'd imagine, and his fee will more than offset Keita's.

Can't see why they insist on signing attacking players when they are crying out for a keeper and a cb

We are definitely still in for a CB, the VVD links have not gone away.

Still, you can never have enough quality attacking options

Arsenal seem to be stuck with Gibbs. His wage demands caused the deal to Watford to collapse.

Probably being a very average player didn't help either. Would have been gone 5 years ago under another manager.

But his cost will not affect our accounts (or FFP rules) until his contract starts with us, so the 2018/2019 season.

I dont think anyone could have predicted that Jonny Evans would be in a tug of war with all the top clubs
Its funny he would really suit Liverpool but dont see them going for him

This is my understanding. Thats the whole reason Kalinic and Kessie (Milan), Mbappe (PSG) move on loan with a compulsary buy. Save adding to this years expenditure. The fees are paid next year.

Nobody knows when the money will be paid or how. I'd imagine though that red bull would like something up front. In that case it would reflect the accounts this year.

    Amortisation though......

FFP doesnt work like that though, RB can get all the money tomorrow but it wont be counted against Liverpool till the start of his contract then will be spread over the 5 years
The same way with Neymar it will be over the time of his contract

Of course it will be counted. The same way if we paid off a staff members contract. The year the money is spent in the year it is counted.

If Liverpool gave red bull all the money this now, it would be counted from now. If they are giving them the money next year it will be counted from then.

It is about spend. When you spend money it is going to be counted towards ffp.

The happening over the duration of the contract is amortisation which means it will be divided by the length of his deal. 5 year contract means the fee is divided by 5. Doesn't matter when it starts. It matters when we start paying.

But as I said no-one knows that info yet

Also, that is only club accountancy - in terms of amortisation. FFP is different. it is done on a 3 year period, nothing to do with the length of any contract.

If Liverpool paid now, it is in their accounts as spend now, and will be considered by FFP as being spent now, and factored into any calculations over the next 3 years. So, it will be forgotten about by FFP at the end of year 2 of Keita being at liverpool, but from an accountancy/reporting perspective for liverpool themselves it will continue over the course of his signed contract. Assuming Keita has already signed a contract, I would assume that accountancy process will start now too.

So WTF is the point of these loans with a compulsary buy if the money changes hands anyway?

He was probably holding on, hoping Chelsea would take him instead of Oxlade Chamberlain by mistake.

Sidesteps Financial Fair Play entirely. You off-set the fee for another 12 months.

That isnt how it works, it starts when his contract kicks in
If Liverpool gave the club the money now it would not count till 2018 when his contract kicks in
Plus the club isnt called Red Bull

No it is over the length of the contract, three years is the assessment so you would have three of the for example five years in the assessment

    What?

So if United buy a player for 100million, on a five year contract, FFP would only look at 60million of the fee? That makes no sense? Surely that can't be right.
