You do know liverpool have virtually spent nothing in the last few years so have got money lying around plus champions league aswell

Nearly £200 million spent over the last couple of seasons including this window.

Both apparently, anywhere across the front 3 or can play as a #10 as well.

The Sigurdsson money was supposed to set off a chain for them. Maybe they just waiting to ship out Llorente. They were linked with Bony, Chadli and R. Sanchez. If they get that trio they wont be too badly off. Defence still needed upgrades.

And how much did they take in in those same windows? There was 125 between Sterling and Suarez alone.

Hard to see anybody wanting to go there now though? The 3 of them would be good additions but as it stands that squad is poor.

    Net spend la.:):)

You as a Liverpool fan know as well as anyone FSG aren't exactly fans of splashing huge money on single players,£74 million on Lemar will give them sleepless nights.

Your not considering net spend at all in the 16/17 about 4 million profit was made and this season they are -34 million

He played about 15 league games that season not exactly a fair bit

Like you said yourself its your opinion and i dont agree with in the slightest, Smalling has played a hell lot more than 15 games as a United starter

They've gotten the CL now and want to stay there. Also massive increase in TV money so it's there to be spent.

Businesses usually are. It's pretty important. If you're talking about money going out, you need to also talk about money coming in.

Tbf the club can't spend as recklessly as a Man City or PSG so of course net spend would matter. Like last year when Mane came in Benteke had to go then to balance the books

If the Lemar and VVD transfers go through Klopp will have spent more than Mourinho and Conte, just behind Pep in second on highest spending manager in the league.

And coincidentally at that exact moment the term cheque book manager will go extinct, entirely unrelated of course

10/11 season he made 16 appearances. 12/13 season he made 15 appearences. Not started, appearences. Certainly a back up for those title winning seasons.

Because its a accurate measure of how much money they have spent and have currently to spend
People who are saying they are spending the Coutinho money are ignoring they were spending that money before Barca came knocking they just couldnt get clubs to sell

I am not sure what you are basing your "Albrighton would be lucky to get into a relegation team other than a relegation candidate" nonsense on but, alas, opinions are opinions. He is currently a first teamer in a Leicester team that has a wealth of decent players across their midfield.

Danny Drinkwater, Ahmed Musa, Andy King, Marc Albrighton, Daniel Amartey, Vicente Iborra, Demarai Gray, Mendy, Ndidi, Riyad Mahrez, Sam Hughes

As well as forwards that could slot in as wingers or at least be accomadated in the team ahead of Albrighton, such as Okazaki, Inneacho, Slimani, and Ulloua

Do you honestly think the majority of PL teams have more competition for a place in attack?

While I get the *subtle* attempt to provoke a rise tbf if they DO then sell Coutinho then they've pretty much self funded a large portion of the deals rather than used a wealthy owner.

ManUtd deals are self funded, not sure anyone can even dispute that. Not a penny from owner, instead they are taking money out of the club.

Fair enough. Maybe net spend isn't the correct term for what we're talking about here. Bluntly, a club would look more favourably on spending big if they have just received a huge transfer fee for a player and the resulting removal of that players wage from the payroll.

In the last couple of seasons EPL clubs have lost £2.1 billion. City and Chelsea between them make up nearly half that. There's huge turnover but not huge profits for EPL clubs.

That's doesn't really sound right so I googled it. Since Mourinho came in, United have spent £238m and Liverpool have spent £24m.

    http://www.transferleague.co.uk/manchester-united/english-football-teams/manchester-united-transfers

    http://www.transferleague.co.uk/liverpool/english-football-teams/liverpool-transfers

Even if you disregard players sold, and Liverpool sold a decent number of first team players, they've still spent about £200m less in that period.

So unless Liverpool are planning on signing Neymar tomorrow without selling either Sahko or Coutinho, Mourinho can hold on to that cheque book manager title. Another title for him to count with his charity shields etc.

He was 3rd choice defender behind Vidic and Ferdinand, 2 of the best PL defenders over the last 20 odd years. If you think Ferguson would have him as cover if he was merely an average defender.

What is your depiction of "overrated" anyway. General opinion about Smalling was hardly in any way to a degree of hyperbole.

In fact, looking at the stats back in 2012/13, Vidic only played a few more games than Smalling. Evans was playing brilliantly back then also

Dwight Gayle looks set to go to Fulham. Should hold on for £20m. Proven goalscorer at that level.

I'd be worried who we can get on short notice though.

Jack Colback due to go to Wolves on loan too so that's a bit of a positive. High wages and has been poor for a long time.

With De Jong gone aswell and Hanley nearly gone ye are finally selling the players who wont be playing. Still have Saivet, Krul and Lazaar mind. But no more than Arsenal ye've left it so late how on earth do ye expect to replace them?

or else they just consider him a very good player and 40 odd million cheaper than their preferred target in that position.............

It is very logical pettiness if Liverpool fans consider it pettiness that they are targetting him now

What you spend has nothing to do with what you've sold. United finance transfers through advertising yet we don't say we've a net profit after signing Pogba and Lukaku.

If those two signings go through Klopp will have spent more than Mourinho, they are the facts.

Did they though.............. or was it, eh, one of the dozens and dozens of "Barcelona are reportedly targetting/ turning their interest to _____________" column fillers that we have been privy to the last fortnight. A transfer happens when it happens. Most of these reports are clickbait, especially with Barca this Summer

Net spend is quite important if you don't have a bottomless pit of money to spend. Generally means much of your spending is linked to recouping money on selling players.

If we had a bottomless pit of money I probably wouldn't care about net spend either.

Where does the money go from player sales then for United? Is it not reinvested?

Most clubs would buy after they sell. Look at Swansea after Sigurdson left, they are looking to get a few players in.

Comparing a teams in and out on transfers has been used for as long as I can remember now.
