they aim for the social and political stories the TOS and TNG did which I like especially the one about Bordis's child

All the child bits put me right off the whole series, laying or hatching whatever it was and then making it a boy or whatever that was, rubbish.

Will watch S2 but hopefully less of Bordis.

Didn't think the trailer is all that good but a good few ST homages in there. Looking forward to it

    I'll be watching this :)

The first episode is out now.

Production values are still top notch, but the writing was pretty poor. The urination idea was probably hilarious in MacFarlane's head.

Watching it now.. strikes me as one of those TNG budget-saving character episodes which is good in that they have really gotten the tone and feel of Trek down at this point.

Only halfway though it but probably one that would have been better mid-season.

(EDIT: Just finished and the Bortas story was actually completely secondary, but I still reckon this episode should have been put back a bit rather than a season opener)

I think you and Mr E are a bit on the harsh side of things; their stories have never been brilliant and based on the ending of Season 1 this follow up episode to set up multiple personal arcs for season 2 makes perfect sense. Yes the whole "Go pee" being a version of the vulkan mating requirement episode etc. was weak but that was only a backdrop item anyway to give an excuse to get some people to hook up for season 2 drama which could not be done in the middle of an attack.

** SPOILERS - Do we need these at this point? **

No, to be fair I quite enjoyed the story with the kids and the Ed/Grayson/new guy plot (as well as the possible new interest for El Capitan at the end). I'm just saying from a season opener (and importantly for US shows - ratings) point of view, they probably should have gone with something stronger.

That aside, it felt like a TNG episode in many ways and that's a good thing in my book.

I actually thought it was really good and sets up some very interesting threads for Season 2 overall. I'd even say it was one of the better Orville episodes in general.

Very strange choice of episode to open season 2 especially given the fact they were boosted by airing right after the NFL.

Just watched it and quite enjoyed it. Isacc is as funny as ever and I had forgotten that the other navigator/helms man had been promoted to chief engineer. The new officer is nice can't blame the captain for liking her.
The kids story was good. But is the Orville big enough to be a family ship. Anyone idea of its crew compliment or size compared to say any Starfleet Enterprise so say the Enterprise-A or even to Voyager?

I enjoyed most of series 1 but this one bored the hell out of me.

This seems to be going the way of The Big bang theory after series 2. Less Nerdy and more romcom. I will give it a chance for a couple more episodes but if this is the new direction, I will forget about it.

The walk out was the saving grace of this ep.

Seeing how nothing from episode 1 played out in episode 2 why not switch those two around? Only tying back to the question of an exciting start so to speak and the view of the planet as the air was leaving was wonderful and hence a good "Oh shinies!" kind of thing to catch viewers.

Episode 2 was one that was leftover from Season 1 - it was supposed to be the 12th episode from Season 1, but FOX held it back for scheduling reasons.

I enjoyed the first episode of this season as it was a nice re-introduction to the characters, but I loved this second episode a lot.

    Worst episode of them yet

I actually thought this was a decent episode. I thought the part around 42minutes in on the simulator with the Moghlins when Isaac is there was very funny. Was strange that they did not have this as the first episode of the second season do as I think that would have worked better.

Enjoyed this episode, was funny with a serious message (porn is good) - very much ST with social commentary

Just watched it now. That was pretty good. Another very Trek-like episode.

They could have fit way more into that shuttle.

Agreed. I thought that too but then maybe they would not have had enough air for anymore or the shuttle would have been too heavy to take off maybe.

They were tested with the strength of 70 men in Belfast

Did you miss the memo that there is no overall story line

Probably meant character development so, they don't just start from scratch every episode. It was a poor episode. It did remind me of TNG i guess, just a bad one. It was a filler episode. No more.

Had to turn it off after 25mins of the first episode. I remember enjoying the first series but everything so far in the second is awful and cringeworthy :( I think this is the first show I've actually not been stubborn enough to watch to the end of an episode, and I have watched some craappp.

*"I'm going for a drive" lol
