First few episodes suck actually but really ramps up. Bortus centric episodes just don't work.

Not seen delayed viewing but it's struggling no? Really hope that it keeps going and branches out more away from 90's Trek to be honest

I watched the two-parter. Really bloody good! The battle in the second one was superb.

I will go back through the earlier episodes now.

Second part of the episode was truly a let-down. Story was all over the place as if they didn't know how to undo what they did in part 1, then went for a massive space battle with awful GCI. There were some very strong points - particularly great use of some underused characters, but generally pretty poor.

COMPLETELY disagree with most of this I'm afraid.

    1. This show is more in the vein of classic Trek (and all the better for it IMO) where resets at the end were pretty much guaranteed. That said, they have set up some interesting follow-ups with the Krill, Isaac, the Kaylon and the Union in general. This could be the show's Dominion turning point which took DS9 to a completely different level.

    2. The CGI was great for this show. It's not Discovery levels no, but then I'd personally say that show has a lot bigger problems that a big special effects budget can't mask. I'm long past being impressed just by what some artist can dream up in Photoshop anyway. For me it was a great sequence with elements like Union ships making kamikaze runs to try and stop the Kaylon reaching Earth.

Good episode (pt 1). Whatever the opposite of jumping the shark is (diving under the shark?) that was it.

Only if you are willing to accept the concept of a human fancying/shagging a robot! Unfortunately (or not!) my brain has completely refused to do so, which means that I have found it impossible to engage with the episodes involving a romance between the doctor and ISAAC. They're just too nonsensical.

Aside:- anyone suggesting that ISAAC is merely a 5G dildo, will be added to my blacklist!

Only started watching this recently... think it's very good.

I jumped to the latest 2-parter episode after seeing the first episode of season one (I know, I know... but I just wanted to get a sense of how well the story writing is at this late stage and if it managed to keep as fresh as in first season).

I was kinda shocked that yer man got shot into space as punishment for the captain's behaviour. Close up on his dead face n all.

Am I correct in assuming that this is unusual for a "Trekky"-style series? As far as I recall the worst you'd see in these series would be a phaser shot and someone just falling down badly, but certainly no close-up on the dead guys face? :)

Well it is a new concept within scifi. I can't believe no one has ever gone there before.

Man that was a great episode... The show is like crack

Yep, nice follow-up to the events in the last episode with a great story for Malloy as well that shows the character/actor is more than just a goofball comedy relief element of the cast.

2 week break but the show continue to improve week on week - really hope it gets renewed.

Huh another 2 week break. Only kidding don't mind sure they have to let Discovery catch up lol.

Yes same here hope it gets renewed.

MacFarlane is very well liked at Fox, on the list of the 3 shows performing around the same level, Orville is the one I'd suggest they will not cancel.

I think the show has been very poor ... indeed, verging on lazy ... this season. It’s like McFarlaine has been distracted by all the other stuff he’s doing and they took the easy option with over-writing many of the episodes.

There have been a few good episodes, but mostly very disappointing.

Are you absolutely sure you’re not mixing up Discovery with the Orville?

Back again for some reason to talk about Discovery on a thread and a show that are completely unrelated I see.

Of course you’d say that with your previous blinkered comments on discovery.

I would entirely disagree also, Orville has its stronger and weaker episodes like any TV show but it's been really solid this season overall with some great character development. Discovery is a dumpster fire by comparison and difficult to sit through at times for me...at the moment I'm 3 episodes behind and finding it hard to find the motivation to watch, or care about any of the characters.

It's "blinkered" to suggest that this isn't a thread about Discovery? Get a clue.
It's "blinkered" to suggest that Orville and Discovery are not even the same genre show other than the fact that they're set in space? Sure.

Well when someone on the Discovery thread raves that the last two episodes was some of the finest ever and then claims that the Orville is crap basically for Season 2 it just shows that you’re complete biased against the Orville.
The point is that the 2nd season of the Orville has been excellent while Discovery apart from the last episode which was excellent has been appalling.
Hopefully the last episode writers are hired to write more and that both shows get renewed for a third season.

Please show me one other thread derailed by me arguing semantics?

Also, please explain how it's semantics to point out that this thread is about a completely different show?

So either you don't know whether this thread is or isn't about The Orville or you know exactly what you're doing...

Show me where I said I don't like The Orville?

Also - same to you about Discovery.

You're losing this and looking silly, unable to answer simple questions.

This show needs to move on from TNG

But but but there are so many Star Trek stories to be re-interpreted
Not sure what they thought would happen when they brought him on as writer/producer

    (Still like it tho)

I thought it was ok nothing special more a filler episode and quite a cheap one too Id say. It was very funny in parts do and the parts with Bottas and Kriten were funny. I think this episode had a message about addiction too.

Thought it was a really good episode as well. The cigarette side-plot was great. Between that and the moustache, Bortus is probably my favourite character.....his deadpan delivery and complete lack of emotion make him the best comic relief character, impossible not to smile.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,032 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Love the show, so many great episodes. There is so much going on from tributes and likenesses to Star Trek to messages about human behaviour.
My favourite episode still is from season 1 though, the one where they find a world governed by social media.
I think the latest one was so funny.

I find these breaks in US schedules fairly crazy. Are they teasing their audience.
