I'm sure there is posts for this but I'm finding nothing informative on them really.
Basically, I'm looking for insurance companies who mirror no claims discounts or recognise that I'm an experienced driver.
I need a second car for travelling to work, prices are crazy as nobody takes into account I have another policy, it's like starting all over again! Has anyone got a second car with reasonable insurance?

This is another case of insurance companies ripping us off, I can only drive one car at a time

Get a 2nd car that's about 25 years old and with a classic policy.

    Hi

I was looking into this issue myself. AXA told me that if you have you insurance with them they would insure a second vehicle with both on the one no claims bonus.

Classicpolicy excludes using as daily driver loop hole... thus why people abusing the policy ,results in genuine cases being harder and harder to get cover

I did this a couple of months ago. My first car is insured with Liberty but they wanted crazy money for insuring the second. I rang several other companies but 123.ie were by far the best and I got a much cheaper quote from them (50% less). I have been a named driver on my husbands policy for many many years and they used this as driving experience/no claims bonus. They require proof of this just as they would for a regular no claims bonus. If you have driving experience/no claims bonus on another policy then give them a call. Good luck.

Did you tell 123 that this was a second car?

It's unusual that they allowed you a full bonus foe named driver experience earned concurrently with an existing policy in your own name.

If that was allowed you could have people getting named on multiple policies to take our multiple policies themselves using the named driver experience.

I'd be VERY surprised if they were happy with this tbh.

I have fully comp driving of other cars, i can drive on in another car as long as i don't own it (legally).

I'm with AXA 10 years now.

I asked Axa about this recently and they point blank refused, told me I would be quoted as a new driver despite me being one of their customers with both mine and my partners cars. Quoted me a fortune to add a second car that would only see occasional driving at weekends etc.

If I understand this correctly it really is a rip off?

So say you have full NCB on one car then get a second and get no bonus but manage after 5/6 years to get a full no claims on the second car what happens if you have a bad accident do you loose both NCB's?

If the NCB lapses by more than 2 years you are back to square one and will be treated as a first time driver.

Two cars two insurance policies all for one driver. What I am asking is if after working to build up two insurance NCB's can one accident wipe them both out.

Open to correction, but would it not only affect the car in which the acciddent was?

Rod Munch is the insurance specialist here.

But if you have a claim on one insurance you'll have to disclose it when renewing the other.

No. Bonus stays, but you would need to disclose the accident when renewing policy for both of the cars.

Similarly when you have NCB protection

Have the wife listed as the official owner and you're basically covered, yeah ? Think I have similar of my Axa poilicy as long as I am not the owner and it's not owned by a garage.

Yes they knew it was a second policy. I didnt get a full no claims bonus but did get a discount on the basis I was a named driver on another policy. Just realised that it's a bit confusing- when I said I got 50% less I meant 50% cheaper than Liberty were quoting, not that I got 50% no claims bonus.

I am actually shocked, but you're right. It seems the principle of community of property does not apply under Irish law...

    Jaw drop...

No, this is another case of insurers trying to counteract fronting

No, this is another case of insurers trying to counteract fronting

If that's what the industry is after, they would allow to purchase TPL insurance per driver, even if they don't own the vehicle.

For instance: A young driver does not have a car, but would like to be insured to drive a car with less than 120 bhp and valid NCT. Not to cover the damage to the car itself, but any damage to other people.

PLEASE AND DON'T TALK ABOUT INSURABLE INTEREST. Because there is.

Sure though if this was the case they'd appraise each quote individually. In my case, I wanted to add a Mini Cooper S as a second car to drive at weekends etc but need a bigger car for my commute to work. When I rang Axa asking about getting myself and the OH on a second policy for the Mini they still quoted insane prices BTW we both have our own cars insured fully comp and named on each other's policy which are all with Same company and I told them too. No chance of fronting as we both have access to two cars already.

They have multi car policy's in the North which work fine, lad I work with from the north has a Nissan 350zand a Mazda 3 MPS on a multicar policy for £800 and he's only 24.. Why can't we do the same?? It all comes down to greed plain and simple.
