I like how Xbox is becoming more of a "Family" of devices with the "No one is left behind" mantra.

I'm not sure how many OG games will be worth playing again (KOTOR, Crimson Skies, Psychonauts, Barbie's horse adventure), but it's nice to know that you could play them if you wanted.

Also, the fact that you can have a LAN party with an OG Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One playing the same game is a nice touch (although, I'd only recommend bringing an Xbox One S or X to a LAN party on health and safety grounds, the launch Xbox One would wreck your back bringing it anywhere)

I am still digesting the Xbox conference. I will buy the X only because the misses will get it for me for my birthday/Christmas present. I am looking  hoping that Xbox pull something out of the bag in the next 365 days with new IPs or something. 42 games were shown last night and I have to say I wasn't blown by most of them. The highlights were:
    • PUBG
    • The last night
    • Backwards on OG Xbox
    • Cuphead release date
    • Ori sequel(first one so good I bought it twice)
    • Seas of thieves. the game is getting better and better.
I can't say anything else really felt great. Crackdown 3 looks like it did get a downgrade. If Xbox goes to gamescom in August they may announce something else.
I know that once the X finds it feet and devs see what it can do it will be a machine to have. I just hope its not to late in the game.

  • I'm disappointed, there's isn't one game that I would be willing to upgrade for. Same as the PS4 Pro
The actual price point for the console isn't bad. But from a purely gaming perspective nothing has wowed me

So to paraphrase, xbox x is crap because you can build a 1,000 euro pc and play the exclusives on pc. MS don't care if you play the game on window on pc or Windows on xbox. Also there are plenty of people who have no interest in building a pc to play games.

Has anyone even implied that it is crap, I think the consensus is that it is possibly an amazing piece of kit but if the games aren't there it will suffer. I hope it does 4k at 60 fps and blows away the old One but as good a machin as it is, untile the library expands beyond 1 or 2 exclusives a year it may not work out as well as MS hope.

In fairness, I don't really know why people were expecting games to convince them to upgrade.
It was always only going to be a console that runs games as best they can be ran (on console)
...and that's enough for me! :)

Anyone get a free game for streaming the event through Mixer? I got Rare Replay...

Did you get a message from XBL for this? Haven't got anything yet

I still don't see the point of Xbox One and or PS4 Pro personally at this stage.
There will be some exclusives on both but I can still play them on my existing pair of consoles as in my PS4 & my Xbox One S.
I have a feeling Nintendo might surprise both companies

Fair enough I respect that opinion but it's not a big enough reason to shell out 500 quid for. System sellers are what I consider a reason to buy a console. Eg Switch / Zelda or TLOU PS3 or Xbox 1 / Gears 4 as examples

Again personally there is too mcuh focus on multiplayer and or F2P titles.
Metro looked class and Crackdown however

I'm not so fixated on exclusives. A decent 3 or 4 games will last me a year and I don't care if they are exclusives. I'm not sure there is currently enough there for me yet. But maybe, I'll have to see what else has come out of E3 as Xbox conference will not have shown everything there is (Battlefront 2 for example).

If you own a PC, ok I get it a PC owner is not going to be interested right now. Maybe that will come later with some exclusives as there is obviously a bit of lag time before we start seeing that. But I have to say, I'd love to see the back of exclusives. The gaming community is so fragmented and divided.

The xbox one is the first console I've had since the megadrive, and it's been pretty good from a gaming perspective. Certainly I think that I'd probably use the xbox rather than the pc given the choice right now. What's disappointed me is the lack of tie in with the Windows ecosystem to date, dnla serving from pc to xbox is horribly slow, store apps are minimal... But that strikes me as a Windows team problem rather than an xbox team one.

Hopefully Microsoft start getting their teams in order and pulling together more quickly. I'd be nice to have an integrated home network.

Yep, I get you. And I do understand the disappointment of not being blown away when some new and highly anticipated tech comes out.

I've got both bases covered also (One S and PS4) and both do the job perfectly.
But now there are options to upgrade either platform to run games even better.

It's simply a case of whether or not you want to/are willing to.

I have a launch PS4 and my brother has the PRO but I can easily see the difference and will be upgrading in the coming months. Horizon Zero Dawn is jaw dropping on it and Wipeout looks stunning. Plus with all the VR games coming out the extra power will help that too. The Pro and the Scorpio are aimed at people like us, people who want to game at the best possible level but all the shiny graphics in the world won't do a whole lot if there's little to test it.

In an ideal world you would have cross-platform gaming and every game on every console but sadly that's not going to happen anytime soon. The price tag for Scorpio is decent enough but it is going to be a niche machine I think. I know that a couple of developers have been trying to get cross platform into their titles and I've been told that both sides are far more receptive to it than ever before so who knows

Yep, these are all showing as owned and ready to install for me now :):

    Rare Replay
    The Final Station
    No Time To Explain
Halo Wars 2 Kinsano Leader Pack
    Minecraft Redstone Specialists Skin Pack

This is also meant to be included but not showing as free (yet)
    Hawken Starter Pack

I logged into the mixer web site, and had 3 notifications with Rare Replay and 2 other games. Checked ready to install and there they were.

You have to link mixer to your MS account, just sign in with MS account and it should ask you to do it.

I've still both the launch and the Pro, the Pro really makes a noticeable difference for PSVR. I really do think the PSVR needs the extra horsepower. Other titles do look better, but it's a niche market with improvements most will happily do without. Again, I'm hoping MS lean heavily into VR with the capabilities of the X.

When the biggest cheer of the event was for original xbox games backward compatibility , speaks volumes really. Very dissapointed with what was shown. For the first time in a long time I don't think I will be buying this xbox at launch.

It comes across as a mod trying to shut down any opinions he goes not agree with and seems like an easy out to stop conversation. If you or others can't discuss consoles without getting into a flame war then the rule has a place but others like myself can have an adult conversation.

When it comes to PS4/Xbox talk, I generally throw out a friendly reminder, which is what I intended with that comment. It's not meant to stifle debate or discussion, but rather a reminder to everyone that there are limits. I prefer that to waiting until someone takes a comment the wrong way, having to delete/edit a bunch of posts, hand out a few cards and do a BIG BOLD WRITING MOD WARNING. Proactive moderation rather than reactive, sure, but I think it's better.

That rule in the charter does indeed have a place, because flame wars happened regularly without it. Here's the end of the most famous example on boards.

There's another rule in the charter as well. No on thread discussion about moderation. If you want to continue a conversation about any moderation, then send me a pm please, it's more than welcome.
Exclusive implies it is for one platform. Being on PC and one console means that it's not exclusive there's no other way about it. If I have the choice between a have on the One or on PC I always pick PC whereas most PS4 exclusives I can only play on the PS4 and that makes then exclusives.

And I said I agreed. I pick and choose where I buy my games, either on PC or on Xbox, but if I turned to the "average gamer" and told them about a new game coming out, they wouldn't ask if it's coming out on PC, they'd ask what console it's coming out on. Functionally, for the mass market, a "console exclusive" IS an "exclusive".

Yes I am aware of how moderation works, I'm not a child who needs to be warned about console flaming as I have no intention of doing so. I was having an adult discussion and then you pretty much came in and stopped it with your post. It's grand, I'm happy not to talk about the One, we can all just nod our heads and say "aren't MS doing bloody great" and anyone who thinks otherwise can say nothing.

But it's not an exclusive, just because some random person will not think to ask "is it on PC" does not make it an exclusive. Of the 7 console exclusives that MS have, well there's 3 Triple A titles and 4 indies and honestly it's underwhelming. That the biggest cheer of the entire night for MS was the announcement of "original Xbox games on your $500 console" says all you need.

I am surprised they didn't mention Game Pass last night.

of that list, I'm delighted to see the Witcher 3, I still have the two DLC segments to play and they framerate boost would be welcome.

Titanfall 2 is one of the few games on console to have an FOV slider, so I'm interested to play around with that too.

That the biggest cheer of the entire night for MS was the announcement of "original Xbox games on your $500 console" says all you need.
It says they gave their fans what they want.

Over at PlayStation they have taken to stating no one wants to play older games while slyly remaking older games to sell to people who already own the game and lets not forget PS Now, PlayStation's paid subscription answer to backward compatibility.

Black Ops 2 outsold Horizon Zero Dawn in April. So there is massive demand there.

A $500 4k console for playing multiplatofrms titles and exclusives is incredible value. This cannot even be replicated on PC.

Then for every Xbox One & X there is:
    • Game Pass.
    • EA Access.
    • 2 gens of FREE backward compatibility.
    • The first stop for popular PC games being ported to console. ARK and now Playbattlegrounds which will be getting 4K support on the X.
    • Mixer for streaming - No lag streaming is seriously impressive.

The Xbox is a serious bit of kit for every gamer.

I can't see why anyone can't have the best of both worlds now that the PS4 & XB1S can be purchased for 200 each when on sale.
