Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Need advice about job

I need help. I started a new job about a month ago and it's gone terribly. My personality in no way suits the job that I'm doing, I'm an introverted person and they want someone bubbly and chatty and I've made a lot of mistakes while learning the ropes. My managers have already pulled me aside about my communication issues and I've been trying to improve. However, they said earlier this week that they've not seen an improvement and that my job is under threat. They've set up another meeting at the end of the week and I think I'm going to be fired.

I have a job offer for a different company and I'm meant to start with them in a few months, but they want a reference from the company I'm in now. I don't know what to do. Do I just give in my notice and hope they don't fire me in the meantime. If I do get fired, my job offer could be taken back.

Is the job offer you got for a similar position?

Not a solution to your pressing problem but Susan Cain has a book and a ted talk called "Quiet" the power of introversion . Might lift your spirits if your finding that a tendency toward introversion is impacting on your working life .

If you actually think that they want to fire you and at the same time you have another job offer then maybe it might work to explain that to them .

They would have to be fairly awful people if they fired you and refused to give a reference instead of just letting you go on to the new job with some sort of standard template reference .

Or if all else fails just try explaining the situation to the employers in the new job. Sometimes a job fit just isn't right . It happens . If the new crowd have offered you a job then they must have been impressed by you in some way . You might find someone there with a bit of humanity who will accept an older reference .

I don't know enough about the people your dealing with but in my experience cases clear communication and honesty can help sort this kind of thing out . But often if your less extroverted its hard to do that . At times us introverts have to work on our negotiation skills and our assertiveness as it may not be a natural strength.

Look they hired you. If you're not right for the job it's not all on you.

Just write it off and move on. They will give you a reference, don't worry. They are legally obliged to I think. In any case the only people who don't get references are the ones who try and embezzle the place.

Is the job offer for a position and company you would actually want to work for?

If so I think your best bet is to be honest with your current boss, tell them at the meeting that you are not a good fit for your current role, you've found other employment and would appreciate a good reference.

Sometimes people don't suit the jobs they are hired for and that's okay. We all have our own skill set that suits some positions better than others.
