Have they actually banned types of porn? I though they just now required all porn sites to have age verification?

You make statement you end up in court with your friend . Maybe someone else accessed his computer.
Report him and you are been judge and jury right now.

personally I would be inclined to do this. even if against my better judgement, unless its very clearly very illegal, you could end up begin dragged into the case ( he claims you placed it there etc )

do you want this hassle in your life.

Lol, there are a lot of people lying in this thread.
Beating someone up because you found rape porn on their computer? Please, you wouldn't even have the guts to beat him up if he committed an actual rape.

Yes, although it depends on where you got it and whether you own it or streamed it.
Other acts banned included spanking beyond a gentle level, full bondage and restraint (in conjunction with a gag and all four limbs restrained) and - bizarrely - female ejaculation.

Abusive language during sex is now also banned, alongside depictions of non-consensual sex.

That which is to give light must endure burning. Viktor Frankl.

If you know a crime has possibly been committed and you don't report it then you are as guilty as the friend with the illegal images and those that produced them. Especially where child pornography is concerned.

This goes above friendship, and accidental finding or not, I would report it to the guards.

Is this really someone you would even want to be friends with, knowing what you now know?

I think it is worth restating that I am pretty sure you are obliged to inform the authorities if you become aware that an adult may in a position to endanger a child.

I literally can't believe that someone is trying to say that raping a child is not worse than raping a animal.

I'd be ashamed to say such a thing.

I'd say you've way too much time on your hands...being appalled and the like.

Bizarrely it doesn't take me more than two seconds to work out that raping a child is the infinitely worse crime?

How long did it take you hon?

Anything to do with children, I'd report instantly to AGS.
I'd imagine most other things I'd probably just have an opinion change of the person - but it's completely subjective. I don't even know what else is "illegal". Torture/snuff movies is it? How would you know they are real?

I'd probably talk to the person first and
Seek clarity, considering he is your friend and not some random stranger, rather than impulsively phoning the guards without bothering to talk to the person. Maybe your "friend" is innocent!

But ransomware involving child porn does. https://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/scam-alert-new-ransomware-puts-child-pornography-on-victims-smartphones-010615.html

the way anti viruses work these days it is quite possible that the images would be loaded before the ransomware was caught by the anti virus. so you would see the images but not the ransom message.

This is completely illogical. How long does an activity have to be practiced by Irish people/in Ireland to qualify as being Irish?

I agree with the points above - sexual abuse of a child is far worse than sexual abuse of an animal. Same way as murder, kidnapping, rape, torture or any other crime against a human is deemed far worse than doing the equivalent to an animal - and this is evidenced by the very different legal treatment of each.

I'm not entirely sure what my reaction would be to either, depends on the person and the exact situation, but more than likely it would be to report to the Guards.

More than a couple of decades anyway. Halal is not an Irish tradition. To claim otherwise is more than a bit daft. Kosher is an Irish tradition as Jews have been in Ireland from the late medieval.
and this is evidenced by the very different legal treatment of each.
Laws change as does morality. In some cultures killing a valued horse was punishable by death, but killing a homosexual human was a far lesser crime, even encouraged. Not just past tense either. Personally while I would see legality as some yardstick, I would keep my own informed counsel as far as morality goes. Though I do see your point A.

I know mine, as I have real world experience of similar. In the course of helping to fix a problem, I found hidden files on someone's computer. Not a friend, but I did know them, enough that they asked for my help. Hidden files that are best served by forgetting, never mind describing. Suffice to say naked children and that's being nice. And I reported him and dropped his computer to the Guards. Who couldn't have been more proactive and helpful, indeed grateful I'd reported the bastard and kept me informed throughout. He got sent down for a few years in the end. Not for long enough in my estimation. Someone who had been a friend, or more a good acquaintance in my teens I found out later had got caught with similar and was also sent away for a few years. I made him a non person in my life. Excommunicatus.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I used to work with a fella in my last job over 10 years ago who seemed to be a nice guy to chat to, turns out he was caught with child porn on his laptop.

It was a big shock to me because I had an image at the time of a paedo as being some oddball who stood out as a weirdo.

For me Porn is a Sexuality thing and is a matter of taste and consent. Where there's no means of consent I find it highly disagreeable, so would have no interest in Rape, But i understand that there is a Rape Play thing that goes on too. So while it could be depicted, it doesn't have to mean the people involved, or who enjoy it would consider going through with rape. Beastiality is something I consider bewildering and not something I'd support.

You seem to be expecting men to have a different opinion on the subject. What leads you to that?

"Illegal" and "Immoral" are 2 different things OP.

For reference, anything involving Children you are legally obligated to report it now, or if found to be aware of it you can be implicated in it. I don't think there's even much scope to debate on that.

Always wondered about this - always seems to be carelessness on the part of the offender (which is bizarre: who the hell leaves this kinda thing on an open, unincrypted harddrive?!) never a proactive police action (which, i know, is either a privacy debate or very much a needle-in-a-haystack hunt).

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Also: just to steer this away from the obvious in 'illegal porn": what would you if content was adult and consentual at the time, but the friend in question had been using it as revenge-porn?

I believe consent to produce and consent to distribute are 2 individual things. Someone should not have it put as their own fault for being in a video in the first place.

With revenge porn, there is generally no consent to distribute.

I get that and I believe it's illegal to distribute without said consent. I was just merely saying anyone who's had such material shared without their consent shouldn't be put down for being in it in the first place. They should be distinguished as 2 separate entities.

I seem to be in the minority here, but it would depend on the context really. It would potentially be a life ruining accusation. So if I found a folder of images which were clearly of children I'd have no choice. But if I found one image in a folder of otherwise normal porn I wouldn't be running to the authorities. It may have been downloaded accidentally while downloading normal stuff. Or if it was a single image it could have been sent to him or there could be some sort of explanation. If it was a case like that, the accusation could be catastrophic for him. If I was happy it was a genuine accident that it ended up on his computer I probably wouldn't report. I might say it to him though to see his reaction.

Depends. I would assess my knowledge of their psychiatric/personal issues and the type of lifestyle the lead to determine whether to report them.

If they were a normal guy/girl who works a good job, has no issues and we're close friends then no. I would however strongly advise them about the criminal penalties of posessing that type of porn and not to download it in my house or save it on any of my removable media devices.

As long as they're not operating a ring or molesting any children then...what's the harm? Seriously. I know that sounds absolutely mad to some people but rather someone get off to images than the real thing.

What about movies that depict crimes?

Murders are shown all day long, as is torture. Rape is less common to be depicted but it isn't unheard of either.

Is it legal to include a depiction of a child rape in a mainstream movie?
    Lolita for example?

Facebook ban pictures of breast feeding women but facebook allows videos of murders to be shown. Execution by chainsaw, a real life crime where the victims face is not obscured and the victim has not consented to his murder being broadcast by Facebook. The victim has living relatives who facebook seem not to care about.

    It is an issue, Endacl.

What if you found out that your 15 year old son had received a nude picture of his 15 year old girlfriend.

She is guilty of producing and distributing child porn and he is guilty of receiving and possessing it.

Also, you can use a tool to download an entire tumblr blog for example. If you download 1,000 images and one or two are suspect you haven't done that intentionally.

There are jail bait blogs which are suspect obviously.
