I'v recently been talking to a man that works in semi state job and he approached me and told me about a friend of mine that's getting court proceedings over a land dispute but I knew none of this ! When I explained this to my friend he got his solicitors to notify the data protection commissioner of a breach of data . Question is what will happen now ?

Possibly nothing. Court is held in public.

However, if the case wasn't public and/or inappropriate information was shared, then the DPC might investigate it and there may be repercussions for the "man that works in semi state job".

You might be asked for a statement.
