Powered USB HDD

Ok, so I have Lenovo 500GB Hard drive. It is powered off USB port. I use it as media store.

Issue is new device I connect to it I have playback issues. I think the USB port on device is not able to power it....looks that way for spec

I am trying to find a USB HDD which has separate power. Very bloody hard thing to find, any recommendations?

Have you two spare ports on the new device? If so then you could try one of these

Just get one of those double USB leads where one USB just provides power and the other power and data which doubles the power.

Also try a new USB lead anyway, you wouldn't believe how many of them I've had to throw away.

You could try a powered USB hub.

Then just look a bit further https://www.amazon.co.uk/Charge-Adapter-Extension-Transfer-Charging/dp/B01N0VBH63/ . That one is for USB 3 but should work fine for USB 2.

I would guess you're using USB2 ports on the laptop? USB3 ports should be able to supply enough current without any adapters.

Its a small media device, I checked spec and it is USB 2.0 on the device, there is 2 ports beside each other so I can use cable.....
