Hi, I'm locating to Waterford soon and my daughter is due to attend a secondary school, I'm wondering what schools have a "bad rep" or we should stay clear of and what schools are known to be the best for transition year. She is currently battleing between the Ursuline and Newtown. If you have any details by as a past student know any details about either of these schools (and other good schools) please leave them below😊

Where you live could be as much of a factor in your choice to be honest! The school run can be a real time filler. Newtown is a pay school but presumably you know that - the "no frills" day pupil rate is pretty reasonable in this post Celtic Tiger era I think.

I thought that newtown isn't a fee paying school any more.

Hmm. Maybe I'm wrong and that they "load" for after school stuff like sports and homework club etc.

edit yep you're right. Dunno why that slipped past me.

Both are good schools, I've got friends with children in both schools and they're all happy with their choice of school.

Maybe get a prospectus for both schools and compare the subject choices.

Newtown used to get a half day on wednesdays but they had to come into school on saturday mornings, not sure if thats still the case but if you like a lie in and dont want to do a school run on a saturday go with the ursuline

They still get the half-day Wednesday but they finish at 4.10 every other day so no Saturday mornings.

To echo a previous poster, the School run should also be taken into account. If they are moving to the Ferrybank area the Abbey has a great reputation also.
