Stag in Kilkenny anything we shouldn't miss?

    Hi,

Have an upcoming stag in Kilkenny over a Friday and Saturday night, we got a package deal where on the Friday night we get some finger food in An Puc Fada and a round of shots, then onto Matt the Millers for another free round of shots.

On the Saturday we have clay pigeon shooting during the day and then its to Matt the Millers for finger food, an Puc Fada for a round of shots and then onto Lanegans to finish the night.

From looking it up these seem like your pretty standard fare pubs that will likely have a few stags/hens but we're a pretty small group for a stag and we wouldn't be as gung ho as you might expect a traditional stag group to be be so I was wondering if there are any recommendations from the locals on quieter places that we might also look into visiting while we are there, if there are any craft beer places that would be a bonus.

In addition to that, anywhere to get a good breakfast on the Saturday morning? And anywhere to get a bit of a decent meal too?

Yes, but just the ones on our toes. We're too hardcore for anything visible.

We just booked the thing online and that's the itinerary they sent us, besides you missed out it sounds like, no Stag should be complete without a scuttermacs. :D

Ryan's bar friary street has great live music on Saturday nights. The puck fada is a dive and will have nothing but hens/ stags and blaring music. Mario's chippers do a great breakfast for a tenner.

All depends on the age of the group and what ye are looking for.

28 - 34 age range, just really looking for places that aren't dives and aren't Hen/Stag traps. We booked it online as it was nice and easy and good value but are well aware that they have likely paired up with the pubs that will focus on attracting hens/stags. So really wondering if there are better places to head to that would be more locals or non hen/stag tourists.

From around 5pm on a Saturday Rose Inn Street and John's Street are full of drunk stags/hens. My choices would be left bank, Ryan's, Paris Texas (wide variety of beers). Matts is a nice pub but will have the stags/hens, avoid puck fada, the world's end and the field

3 places on John Street which would be mainly free of the usual hen/stag parties: The Front Room, J.B's Bar, Egans.
The Field, Puc Fada and Lanigans are kips.

If you're a small group doing a tour of pubs then Ryans as already mentioned but Syd Harkins and the Dylan are 2 more for the list. If you're around during the day and you like a bet hit Breathnachs on John Street as it's right beside the bookies and will have the racing on. If you're still able head to Left Bank around 10ish no reason to go any earlier.

Kilkenny has great pubs but it's pretty poor after 12.00.

    Others for the list:
    Cleeres
    O Riadas
    Front Room
    Billy Byrnes

These are all nice pubs. None of them will be thronged with people but for day drinking they're all you need.
