Ask the near by vet as I'm sure they have a process for removing dead animals.

Brown/compost bin? In a bio-degradable bag maybe. Tis where I put all the mice our cat nicely brings to us. Prob not strictly allowed but sure plenty of other raw meat scraps go in as well.

Prob the right thing to do of course rather than my suggestion :pac:

As it's not my cat, I'd prefer something cheap or free if possible.
Vets send animals off for incineration and return the ashes if you prefer. All which costs.

but a vet also takes them (into the freezer) and gone she is.
make sure to post a description of the cat on some lost and found pages in case someone misses her.

Also: if you explain it to the vet, he/she might wont even charge.
if you leave it outside in a bag a fox might gets it which is maybe a messy thing afterwards

    Bin it

Went through the same thing myself, nearly stood on it when hanging out the washing, was told by the local SPCA to put it in the bin, but bag it, in this heat, it won't take long to smell a bit

    Contact the city council.
They have afaik a free pet disposal service to stop people doing what is being suggested in this thread (ie binning or burying)

If you don't know who owns it I would have said bring it to a vet so they can find the owner via the microchip.

I guess the owners will keep guessing what happened to their pet now.

It's also illegal to bury pets on private or public land.

Who is going to enforce that? The dead pet Police? :pac:

Just another toothless law that people ignore.

Throw it into the neighbours garden. Or cook it http://www.cookyourpet.com/frames_intro.htm

Leave them on top of the ground. Be grand.

OP, did you notify your local vets and try find the owners? I have lost cats and years later, I still don't know what happened to them. It is horrible. Myself and my husband have foubd two dead cats and went out of our way to find the owners. They really appreciated knowing what had happened. They also wanted to 'dispose' of the cat themselves.

I cannot stand my neighbour. Had I seen the OP earlier I would have given him his address and he could have disposed of it in his garden.

Even though I have not spoken to him in 2 years I'm pretty sure he would have hated had this happened.

Alternatively I could have given you his address and you could have dismembered the moggy and sent him pieces in the post every day for a week or so. He definitely would have hated this.

Even though I would be against dismembering any dead animal, I think his frown would be enough for me to disregard such principles.

It's also illegal to bury pets on private or public land.

That's the first I've heard of that.

Do you know what particular law /regulation states that ?

I'm gonna say none.. maybe some legislation under some agricultural act for disposal of farm animals, but not for cats and dogs.

Not everyone wants to send a dead pet to an incinerator.

Plus local authorities do not publicise the fact that they provide this service, it might as well not exist.

I hear you. I didn't know about the illegality of burying or the disposal service until after I buried my aunt's cat in her garden.

But the poster here, was informed of both facts and still buried the cat.

It's also illegal to bury pets on private or public land.

It is not illegal, the animal must be buried at a certain depth and covered in most council areas.

I think the depth is around 3 or 4 foot but I will try and dig out the regs. Also not near water sources.

I wonder would a cat with rigor mortis fit in an average sized domestic stove? (asking for a friend).
