That's because the resolution is 800*480, similar to the first wave of Android phones.

All the projectors in your budget will be like this. Doesn't matter how big they say they can project to, you need to consider their resolution.

Set the screen on your Desktop/Laptop to it and check it out yourself.

At this range they're all pico projectors, they wont work in a room thats not pitch black. Like completely dark. A regular office/conference room with the blinds drawn? Invisible. Classroom? Invisible.

    Real projectors start around ?350.

Those class of projectors are perfectly fine for movies and presentations at about 120", 800x480 sounds terrible but it's actually not bad for media - but as ED E said, the real drawback is the brightness.

Unless it's a very dark room with very little light bleed, it won't be great. If it needs to project in a classroom environment or during the day when curtains aren't available, you'd want to be looking at 2nd hand projectors in the 150-200 price range ideally, or 300-400 new.

ok thanks for all the info

the room I use has automatic lights that switch on when people in the room and no way to turn them off unless we all stay perfectly still for 10min, so those cheaper units are a no go
