it depends on where you live
    How big your family is
    Work have always paid mine
    Gas/solid fuel/old house/new house
    about 350 euro
10 a month for Netflix + tv licence
This again depends on area and house and if you are renting or own.
ours is about €260 for house and contents

Again there are so many factors involved here.

Medical treatment costs if the dog needs surgery
Kennelling for when you're on hols and can't bring the dog with you (or if you're going on work trips)

If you commute to work by car

    Nct

    Maintenance
    Annual parking costs

    If you commute by train/bus

    Annual tax saver ticket

    Also

    Ongoing medical expenses
    Prescriptions
    Doctors visits
A&E visits if you suffer from ongoing medical issues

Because they asked. No one is forcing anyone to give the information but it's hardly the first time it's been asked and usually there are loads of people willing to give an idea. I try and calibrate my food shopping a bit on these threads.

Granted some context and a location would be nice.

Some suggestions - Health insurance, there are times to get this but if you're just starting out and in your early twenties, I wouldn't (and didn't) bother.

TV and internet. DO NOT think of these as 'I'll just get something' spend a few minutes working out what you want TV wise. Don't lie to yourself about how much TV you watch. TV companies make their money on the ancillary stuff like renting movies etc. If you've kids that want to watch 2 or 3 movies at the weekend Sky Movies is well worth it if you can get a deal at the time, rather than keep buying box office. However if you just want very basic TV don't buy a package at all. With all the telcos make sure the deal is for the entire contract. Generally a bundle of basic TV and internet can be got for around €50 a month.

Bins for me are about €20 a month

There's a great article(s) floating about the massive cost of being poor, it's applies massively in Ireland not generally because people are poor but they hat contracts. Look very closely at pay-as-you-go deals and make sure you'd not be better off on a contract. Phones are an odd one as it is something you can let go off, but electricity - PAYG are usually a rip off. Similarly look at your bank changes, can you get a better deal there.

The wife does the saving but I think we save around 50% of our income from jobs a bit more when you factor in our rental incomes.

Cheers for that. Curious how there are no license requirements for cats.

I now wonder how many people have actually registered their doggo.

I wouldn't be inclined to agree there. I was hospitalised twice needing minor surgery twice in my early 20's. Both were unexpected surgeries, the second being rather expensive and more than likely needing surgery again in the medium term. Combined bill was €5000 meaning after 6 years my health insurance payments are only breaking even for the company. The fact I will need more work done means that I will be covered going forward and has I not been covered I wouldn't be covered if I was subsequently taking out a policy.

Cats are considered vermin IIRC. It's also unlikely you'd have to go to the District Court to get an order for some fecking eejit, and every housing estate has at least one, who leaves their dog barking all night vs a cat meowing.

I have to agree with James Bond Junior on this one, I was caught out with no health insurance and had serious health problems, cost me a small fortune.

As the saying goes..better to be looking at it than looking for it!

    Mortgage 1450
    Childcare 1400
Tv, internet, phone, Netflix, Spotify, vhi, home insurance 400
    Petrol, tolls, insurance 500
    Groceries 800

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,478 ✭✭✭eeguy

    Monthly mine is roughly:
    Rent 400
    Groceries 200
    Bills 150
    Car 200
    Savings 1500

    Entertainment 200

I'm saving for a mortgage at the mo, otherwise I'd be splashing out.

Guys- as this thread is only tangentally related to the forum- I am closing it. There are far more appropriate forums for discussing personal finances than this forum.
