Am I mad to consider a 600rr over a f800r

    As the title goes.

    I've been looking at getting a new bike for a while, we have now gone sale agreed and have a closing date so I'm actively looking and the wife has told me to go for whatever one I want. (Pro tip, keep on annoying your wife about something she has no interest in until she breaks)

    Both bikes are near enough same height and weight, I absolutely loved my 04 600rr before but I'm wondering about the practicality of it over the f800r.

    I honestly can say I prefer the rr, but I'm not sure how my back will hold out if I'm day long spin or combining it I to a 4 day break. You can get enough accessories for the 800r to make it a great tourer but I'm just not (for the want of a better word) lusting over it the way I do with the CBR.

    And then there's the z1000sx, that's the dark horse (haven't been on one yet) but the 230/240kg weight is slightly daunting.

    Overall the use of the bike will be for fun, I'm now working from home, so spins and holidays are what it's for.

    600rr would be **** for long distance Imo, best bike for fun though. The Kawasaki sounds like the best of those three for ur needs, best of both worlds

    CBR 600 F Sport might be the comprise your after. I had one, great bike all round. Not as severe on the wrists or back as the RR.

    I had a look at the newer 600f and 650f, something about them doesn't appeal to me, I'm not a fan of the single headlight, but apart from that they do the job.

    The z1000 is slightly outside of my budget (around 5k GBP) but it may be worth it, having a look at the spec sheet again I'm less concerned about the weight, it's close in weight to the nc750 (although the NC carries its weight lower) and the Z has a larger tank so that the curb weight makes it an even closer call.

    I can live with a sports bikes for day to day stuff and while it's not the best for long weekend spins, I can work around it.

    I know when I had the transalp and more so the f650, I found them quite sedate for day to day but where great for longer runs. But not particularly fun.

    The VFR is also there, a nice low seat but quite heavy, the cbr650f, not a fan of the single headlight but it seems to do the job, then theres the er6f, seat and weight are good but I don't like the bars.

    At the moment I'm trying to talk myself out of the z1000 but I'd be stretching my budget a bit.

    I've read your previous posts in other forums, and noticed you have a budding family. I may risk being a downer here, but your wife's interests lie in keeping you from getting maimed or killed. So set aside plenty for safety equipment, and consider getting a bike that won't make you tempted to orphan your children.

    Big bike; wide bars and lots of ingin!

    Supersports are great craic on the perfect day but had to live with on the 'not so' perfect ones, there'a a lot to be said for having the power on tap but being able to choose 'how' you ride, had Gixxers, ZXRs, CBRs and the 'funnest' bike I've had was was a street fightered GSXR 7/11, now I'm hankering after something like a Duke or Hypermotard (it's tough being a shortarse :()

    Prolly hold onto the balde tho - for the 'perfect' days ;)

    That's a whole load of negative bollocks as far as most bikers are concerned.
    Every bike has a throttle and the rider decides how much to twist it, plenty of sportsbike riders ride them handy, I really hate it when people say the same old sh!te, ahh you will kill yourself on that thing, ffs it's our choice and every time we sit on the bike we know the risks.

    To the OP - the vfr is heavy but a beautiful bike to ride, as for the cbr maybe bypass the 600 and get either a 929 or 954 blade, both very comfy bikes.

    F800 any day.

    Probably would be quicker in traffic and on the twisty. And way more fun.


    But , thats just my opinion.. Everyone is different.

    That's the type of sense I don't need to hear.

    In rare moments of clarity, I know that the rr isn't for me, while it's mental fun and my old rr scared the bejesus out of me, I don't think I would enjoy being hunched over for 3 hours at a time.

    I'll take a look again at the older blades, they are growing on me, the F8 makes perfect sense to me but I'm trying to justify the the extra cost and weight of the Z

    Just on the Z1000. It's a great bike and the weight you don't feel at all  (unless your trying to push the fecker backwards and are in any way short). The engine will happily pot along at around 2200 rpm and still pull away or you can rev it higher and accelerate like a lunatic. It really is a fantastic engine. If you want a loud noise though you'd need to change the exhaust as it is fairly quiet.
    It's a bike that I instantly fell in love with seconds after jumping on it and still enjoy even though I do 600km a week in commuting and have also done over 1,100 km on it in a single day and survived ;) 
    Never tried your other propositions so unfortunately can't advise there.

    Not to concerned about loud exhausts but I've only got an inseam of 30" so not sure about that, will take a swing out to bike world during the week to have a look and see.

    Am back looking at the newer 600f and 650f as they seem to tick all the boxes except maybe on the looks, mainly the front light.

    Just pointing out why his wife wasn't on board. I know it's a downer, but he's the one that signed the contract, and started a family. Good luck to you and yours.

    We appear to be similar enough in height. It's quite a tall bike so may take a little getting used to.

    In any case, enjoying the process of finding your new bike :D

    forum, yes ? It's like going into a parachutist forum and giving out about jumping from a height...I mean, really. ..

    I spent 13 hours on my bike yesterday under tough conditions marshaling a bicycle event, including escorting paramedics under blue lights.

    Two cyclists went down in two incidents and I actually closed the road for 45 minutes due to the seriousness of one (split his helmet into 3 pieces).

    One guy off in an ambulance, the other Medivac'd by helicopter. From bicycles.

    I bet their wife's didn't see that coming. Maybe you should pop over to the cycling forums and start your pontificating there.

    Quite what you'd make of my house would be interesting : between my bikes and my wife having two, and my kids on bikes since before national school age (now 17), you'd probably have a meltdown.......

    If I want a lecture on ....anything......I'll go and seek it, thanks all the same

    TT, how much fun was the f800 not only on twisty roads but normal day to day riding, I had a look over some of my older posts on another forum when I changed down from a RR to a f650 and I found the bike souless and mindnumbingly boring, people say you can make your own fun no matter what the bike but I felt for the weight and power it just left me wanting so much more.

    My budget stretches to a 07/08 RR with medium to low miles on it, a 11/12 F800 with medium/low miles or pretend I like the front end of the cbr650 and I can get a 13/14 with low miles on it.

    I've discounted the Z as the weight combines with the slightly higher seat just doesn't fill me with confidence at low speeds.

    My wife thinks it's great that people on boards care more for my safety than she does, I did have an accident on my first ever bike (don't we all) as I twitched on the throttle going around a corner and the rear slid out. Since then I've done my RoSPA and, touch wood, only dropped a few bikes but I wasn't on them at the time.

    Since then "we" have bought one, albeit in GS form, and it's a hoot. Mainly for herself to ride, so it's a lowered one.

    Had a spin on an FJR last night, and whilst great, I keep coming back to weight over whatever type of engine it has.

    Didn't see a need to start a new thread, does anyone have experience of a 07/08 zx6r. I'm still looking, and my gaze has moved from a CBR to the kawa, I've heard they have a few issues with low end torque and you need to rev the balls off them to get going. Just wondering how severe this is. I've had a look at the curve and compared to others, they are fairly similar so not sure if the complaints are warranted.

    Also, has anyone bought of superbike factory over in the UK, just wondering how reliable they are.

    Feck it, I may just go for a 675
