Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Poor reception with Tesco mobile

I was with Vodafone for over 10years and last month I decided to move to Tesco mobile.
My phone was originally from Vodafone but they have unlocked it for me because I was with them for very long and topped up regularly.
My issue is that since I moved my number from Vodafone to Tesco I am out of reception for 90% of the time.
My friend told me it could be because my mobile was unlocked and I should buy a Tesco mobile instead ?
And not sure if that makes any difference but before I was with Vodafone I was with meteor for a short while so my number is 085 and then I moved it to Vodafone nd now to Tesco

This is more of an issue with Tesco mobile really, you need to contact them and tell them the problem.
If youre on prepay perhaps just transfer back to Vodafone

Your friend is wrong, the phone is unlocked it doesn't matter where it was originally bought from.

What you could look into either is porting your phone number over to An Post mobilehttps://postmobile.ie/
They roam on Vodafone's network so you'd get the same coverage but cheaper. Personally I wouldn't touch Vodafone with a barge pole because of the miserly data allowance they give smartphone users.

There's a possibility Tesco's signal isn't so good where you are. This is very unscientific but one of the reasons I left them was the deteriorating signal where I live. I also wanted 4g but that's not going to happen. They're still using the old O2 network and have no access to 3's masts.

You could try another sim card from them just in case the one you have is faulty. What might also be an issue is the settings on your phone. When you switched your phone to them did you have any of their settings sent to it ? https://www.tescomobile.ie/help-centre/Phone-Settings

It's immaterial whether your phone comes from a Tesco store or not. I generally buy my phones sim free and then just get the correct settings from the network I'm with (I move around a bit). I've never had a problem. I've a friend who usually buys a pay as you go phone at a price he likes from any one of our networks, has it unlocked, puts on the correct network settings and uses it as normal.

The thing to remember here is that you can keep your number no matter what network you move to. So if Tesco is wrong for you, you can easily switch. Have you ever taken a look at a phone plan comparison website? That might help point you in the right direction.

    Mod note
Sorry OP this forum is for issues of a personal nature. I'm unsure if you need the Talk to forum or consumer issues but mobile phone coverage or changing suppliers isn't appropriate for PI.
