Converting a pine door to a Dutch style door

I have a small cloakroom/utility cupboard in my hallway.
I had a thought to try and get someone to convert he existing (relatively cheap and standard) pine door (approx. 1/2 the size of a regular door) to a such style door... I want to make a cosy little dog bed in the bottom half and then kit out the top part with shelving.
Should I bother with the upgrade of the door or might it be cheaper to just buy a Dutch style door.

If anyone knows a good carpenter in Galway (Connemara) please let me know :)
