Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ive a friend who has been harassed by an ex on and off over the past year, she went to the gardai a number of times but they wouldnt do anything, now she's discovered he's been sending intimate photos of her to people online via facebook/whatsapp ect.
Going to the guards feels pointless because theyve been so useless in the past. Can anyone advise what to do about this? is sending nudes of someone even illegal in Ireland?

Bit unfair to say the guards were useless, they can't do anything unless a crime has been committed.

A solicitor can send a cease and desist letter.

No we're well behind on the matter but proposals are there to put it into legislation this year.

Sending this type of imagery to other people online as degrading as I'm sure that can be wouldn't be deemed harassment either.

    Harassment is a crime....

From non fatal offences against the person act-

    (2) For the purposes of this section a person harasses another where—

    (a) he or she, by his or her acts intentionally or recklessly, seriously interferes with the other's peace and privacy or causes alarm, distress or harm to the other, and

    (b) his or her acts are such that a reasonable person would realise that the acts would seriously interfere with the other's peace and privacy or cause alarm, distress or harm to the other.

It really does depend on what she is calling harassment, the odd text isn't harassment but persistent calling and coming round with repeated requests to stop is.
    Having records is also helpful.
If your friend is unhappy she should raise a complaint with the superintendent.

You don't elaborate on this harassment though.

You only hone in on the "Revenge Porn" which is even your thread title in fact as the main basis as qualifying as harassment.

Although it's in the works as it currently stands in this country the Gardai have nothing to enforce when it comes to protecting against that type of despicable behavior.
