Registering a NI bike in ROI

I'm buying a bike from NI and it's also my first bike. After some googling it says I need to pay €2/cc for the bike (it's 125cc).

Where do I go to register it in my name so it's legally mine, and how do I get Irish plates for it?

Book an appointment at the NCT nearest you

If you have a Learners Permit you'll need to trailer the bike down. Most motor factors can make plates.

If it has less than 6000km on it it will be considered new and VAT will also be payable on it.

What year and mileage has the bike got? make sure you get a V5 with the bike plus at least a hand written receipt for the bike when you buy it (Does not have to be a professional receipt, but make an effort)
What part of the country are you in?

If you pay VAT here @23% and buy from a VAT registered dealer in NI you can get UK VAT @20% back, but agree this with dealer first

I bought new up north before and the dealer sold the bike ex. VAT. You get a HM Customs form that you present when paying VRT etc. down south.

Once you pay what's due on the bike you'll get registration details and can get plates, insurance and road tax.
