The winners prize money for next year’s worlds increased to £500,000, and more chances to qualify for it

Jeff Smith confirmed he's going to Q school. Suspect the likes of Durrant, Mitchell and Noppert will too.

Needs to deal with losing better. It happens to everyone.

Should have given a post match interview after his defeat to Cross. Too old now to be sulking.

pretty sure they only interview the winners, after a few were not too impressed being asked stupid questions seconds after losing, makes sense.

The World Matchplay Trophy to be renamed, The Phil Taylor trophy.

Let's move on shall we, we get it.

I think that was an unnecessary move to be honest.

Think the Naming of trophy's should be left till someone is dead but no doubt it messages Phil's ego

Would not surprise me to see him announce his comeback before this so he could try to win his own trophy:rolleyes:

I wonder with the announcement of more players at the next world championship, could they include a wild card pick or some similar sly sky move

They could, but surely if Taylor has a year off from darts, unless he trains his bollox off prior to the World Champs he wouldn't be throwing well?

Separate the character from the player. He won 16 Matchplay titles.

Can't think of a more fitting name for the trophy.

    Can't see Mitchell going.

With Durrant it depends on how goes in Lakeside.

He was saying last month if he reaches the semis, final' winner that he'll honour the BDO contract he signed for the worlds.

Noppert should give it a go, young and has a decent game that could only improve with going full time.

I think the contract withholds the prize money to ensure that you don't jump ship to the PDC Qualifying School, so that is probably why...

Cameron Menzies might be courted after his performance at the Grand slam both personality and play

Jamie 'Yozza' Hughes also looks to be going.

I often wonder is that contract worth the paper it's written on. I couldn't see it standing up in court.

Bunting left after winning in 2014 and received his £100,000 as far as I know.

    Always thought the same.

I'd be shocked if that contract exists and is legally binding.

To make good money in the BDO you need to be hitting the Top 4 at least in every major BDO tourney no? The prize money doesn't go deep and very few Tournies have that much? I mean of the 300k for the BDO World's, 100k goes to the winner......

in 2001 in played some pdc - 16 years ago
hes made next to nothing for last 3 years
2500 from the pdc grand slam was his top payday over 3 years - thats good money is it?

the money in the bdo is terrible - most events are 4 or 5k to winner

Aye with 100k to the winner of the BDO Worlds and only 35k to the runner up, I reckon its impossible to even make £50k in the year unless you make the final of the worlds, or have a good run in the Grandslam of Darts, with the likelyhood being you would make substantially less than £50k even if you went deep in all the big tournaments.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,882 ✭✭✭sc86

yes and factor in the money its cost travelling to these events etc

thats why they are all full time employed

The dude playing now Justin Thompson's wiki page:pac:

"Justin also won the Budapest water volley ball championships while acting like a dinosaur and trying not to get wet. Justin also won the 2017 Budapest karaoke competition and has a vast array of fidget spinners which he uses to dazzle the ladies."

Good website here that shows the prize money won in the BDO, looking at 2017, here's the top 50. So it clearly shows you can't make any money of note unless you make the final of the BDO Worlds. As mentioned in the thread above, travel expenses have to come out of this so it's clear that you would most certainly need a full time job to supplement your income in most cases - http://www.dartsdatabase.co.uk/PlayerStats.aspx

    Johnny Clayton 112000 wow

Aye he got £40k for making the final of the Players Championship, and scored a few £10ks here and there, plus a bunch of small change to make up the total.

Love this, the list of fines for 2017

Justin Pipe fined 3000 for the coughing incident.

Some mad ones on the list
