Woohoo, sloppy defending but who cares. Phillip's pass superb.

Not the time I'd want Llorente to make his debut

His pedigree is good.. Our best CD most likely.

    Oh not doubting the ability.

    Some defending by...Werner

We should be finding a way to get Rodrigo into this team. Not sure how it would work formation wise but Alioski would be the obvious candidate to make way.

    Hilarious.

Hope that ruins his evening. Chelsea are not enjoying this.

Not too surprising, always be hard to keep them out!

Alioski is getting skinned alive every time. Get him off, Rodrigo on and Dallas to left back.

Would have taken this at half time.

Agree on Alioski, the weakest position and wouldnt be surprised if hes targeted more

Llorente fault for the goal too

Just seen that with the replay now

As others have said, Alioski is getting slaughtered. Drop Dallas into LB and put Rodrigo in the middle I reckon.

Ayling was way too deep, like 3 yards out. Gave giroud an ace of space to get behind without fear of a flag

His passing is all over the shop, but I can see his class, agree re alioski, we are crying out for rodrigo, I little bit of quality and we can win this.

Also how did we raphinha for 17m, chap is lethal

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,070 ✭✭✭purple hands

Chelsea very good tbf, pacy and skillful. Werner vs Alioski is the stuff of nightmares.

A brilliant counter attacking goal though - the first time ball, the run, the touch past Mendy.

It's London so don't expect anything, but a point would be great.

I'm loathe to criticise our lads but I've long seen Alioski as a squad player rather than first team.

And Raphinha doesn't need to be going down like that.

Was about to say Harrison having a poor game too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,070 ✭✭✭✭event

    Chelsea looking good tbf.

But who would have thought that signing a left back for 50m, signing one of the worlds best centre halves and playing one of the best defensive midfielders in the world in his proper position would make ye better defensively.

    Frank is a genius

Being outclassed here, bit of a lesson so far.

We need a change now. I know its last sub but get someone else on.

Several recently. Poveda looks a better option on either wing.

Only for him this would have been embarrassing. But I suppose that's his job

This shrieking every time Llorente gets the ball is fairly embarrassing.
Did he do something to warrant it or just idiot Chelsea fans?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,911 ✭✭✭Seathrun66

We really shouldn't be in sight of a draw at this stage.

Surely 2/3 more decent chances for us and we'll just have to rely on their misfiring continuing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,289 ✭✭✭stryker mcqueen

Poveda goes down we get a pen there

A few hard tackles on their players. Just makes their fans look stupid.. The most aggressive, angry and horrible fans of any stadium I've been in. Though Millwall none too charming, particularly with several of them gobbibg at you. .And Corinthians fans in Sao Paulo throwing bottles of urine not that endearing either.

Yet still Chelsea claim the top slot.

This is the best opposition we’ve seen this year so far IMO anyway. They are pressing the hell out of us and we haven’t a notion what to do

Agreed. Leicester out thought us but we're struggling to get anywhere here.

    And there's the death knell.

Only started watching second half but Chelsea are a different class to us, we looked absolutely hopeless at times

Agreed, we have been completely outclassed in the second half, only Meslier kept us in it. They marked Phillips out of it and we had no other ideas. Over and back from Cooper to Llorente and ends with a bad forced pass. Not a good day at the office but beaten by a much better team on the day.

Little patronising comment there "more video watching for Bielsa"

Can't have any complaints about the result, we were beaten by the better team who have just gone top of the table as a result. Just disappointing that we conceded the third after holding them for so long. Some of our passing around our own box scared the bejasus out of me, it was far too casual at times and frequently the passing was poor. We need to do something about that or we will be punished for it.

We are atrocious at defending set pieces, really really really bad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,014 ✭✭✭Eggs For Dinner

Harrison should surely be rested now. Dallas had a poor game, but he's had some stormers too. I do love Meslier & KP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,911 ✭✭✭Seathrun66

We lost to the best team we've played thus far so perspective is helpful. Very winnable fixtures approaching, including at Old Trafford I believe, so I'd expect us to be 9th/10th by 1 Jan.

Less optimistic about facing the Spurs front line the following day.

Maybe the video will be "how to play against a team with a wage bill that is £117M than yours....."

Their bench showed the gulf in this division. I think we’ll need to look at Alioski, Harrison and Cooper for the future. LLorente and Koch will be the CB pairing, with Ayling on the right. We need a specialist left back. And yet I think we need more balance in the squad, we're overloaded with leftfooted players: Bamford, Rodrigo, Raphinha, Harrison, Poveda, Costa, Alioski, Cooper, Llorente. Stay up, and replace the weak links gradually.

I'd say this was always the plan, and its something that should be expected if they are to stay up. Rodrigo and Raphinha are a big step up in quality on many of the players, then Koch and Llorente too. Dont think any of it will happen in January window either, unless it's the right player at the right price.

I wont give up on Harrison yet, he improved massively last season so hoping he may just be finding his feet here.

Harrison is good to chase back, b he doesn’t have the pace or trickery. Poveda, who I thought was too lightweight, actually does give defenders a hard time. Not as good at tracking back, though.

We will never have the option to pick up a player like Havertz for £75mil. £500 million vs £50 million. That is the gulf between the billionaires toy Chelsea and us.

    Good.

Leeds were that club breaking transfer records, treating 4th as failure. And I'm not sure it was as good as some remember. Sure, there were great European nights, but that's because they were putting it up to the billionaires toys. The weekly match ups v Sunderland and West Ham were not that enjoyable, because there was an expectation and pressure. It was like last season in the Championship, we expected Leeds to win, which meant winning was not as enjoyable and losing was disastrous.

Right now, Leeds are playing with no expectation, no pressure, almost every game is against a richer club and seeing them play so well and take points off Man City, Arsenal etc is far more enjoyable for it.

West Ham, Burnley, Newcastle, United and WBA are the remaining games in December - definitely good potential for points there. 23 points+ would be an excellent return to start the New Year.

In a fantasy world that's an "easy" 15 points from 5 games but 8-9 points in reality would be terrific!

I dunno, man city game could've been a hammering if Sterling wasnt trialling for the olympics diving team

Not much to add, definitely the best team we've played so far.

Kante is really impressive, forgotten how quick he is. We sat Klich on him in the first half which lessened both their influences on the game but he was immense after the break.

We do need to do something at left back. While Alioski is half decent going forward he's a disaster from a defensive point of view.

For West Ham, bring in Rodrigo to keep Rice honest and move Stuey to left back.

Harrison is struggling with the step up in class. Reece James ( remember him playing for 10 man Wigan that day ) was superb all night, no matter who we put on that side.

Finally, Poveda goes down and it could be 2 - 2. Might well have finished that way too as we probably wouldn't have been as exposed as we were trying to force it.
