When I was in japon the switch was the main point of every games shop I seen when you walk in the door they love the switch over there.

I got myself a hard copy of under tale when I was there. I had to go to i think 12 different game stores to find a copy as was sold out every where in akiborea.

Also a heads up kids don't think a shop sells video games when they say it outside I found out the hard way and walked into a store the size of a small Tesco that just had porn video games and dvds....

That said, the 360 has had a large number of Japan only releases from the Shmup genre, the likes of Deathmiles II and Cave shooters, so... I'm not sure what that means...

The X360 is really weird for that, its also got releases of two Virtual On games and Guardian Heroes got reissued on the XBLA but no other console since the Saturn. Maybe it was a push by Microsoft to gain a bigger presence in Japan in conjunction with Sega.

Also strange is you can buy Virtual On for the Xbox One via BC!

I've often wondered if the 360 being the console-of-choice for Street Fighter IV competitive play made any dent at all in Japanese 360 sales.

I remember when the 360 hit 1 million sales in Japan in 2011 and the gaming media created a minor hoopla about it. As though it was some kind of sign the Japanese market might be warming up to Microsoft. Meanwhile, the Xbox One is currently sitting at 100,000 sales in Japan.

I can imagine the niche gaming nerds in Japan being similar to the ones here, except instead of being into Famicom or PCEngine collecting, they own an Xbox 360!

PS Vita production ending soon in Japan
Sony handheld's final days have come.

    That was never a competitor.
It failed to light up the buying public and became a hub for localised RPG and SRPG in its final years.
Tearaway and Persona are the best things on it, well perhaps TxK is the best thing on it...

I'm still annoyed more PSP games, like Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth and the 2 Star Ocean games, weren't on the PSN, I have the physical games, but I'd have liked to play them on my Vita too.

Fake Nintendo Switch Docks – Looks can be deceiving, comparisons revealing
...The Nintendo Switch is no stranger to counterfeit products, we’ve already seen the likes of fake Pro Controllers hit the market and quickly flood numerous websites. Most savvy consumers can spot them a mile off, either through their too-good-to-be-true pricing or the obvious lack of an official logo. Though if a fake controller does wind up on your doorstep and ends up being faulty, then besides wasting a bit of cash, there’s no real harm done. Well… besides patent infringement.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for fake Nintendo Switch Docks. The external housing of counterfeit docks is 99% identical to that of an official product. In fact, they’re so closely matched that I initially thought that the manufacturer had simply used a genuine shell to help shift their product.

The case bears the same Nintendo logos, is made from the same material, features the same protective rubber on the inside slot, and even has the correct wording and voltage debossed on the underside. Flipping open the back hinge also reveals that input/output labels are all present and correct along with the ports and air vents.

To make matters worse, the fake dock was priced the same as a genuine Nintendo Switch Dock and also came in the same soft material bag as the official one. If I didn’t know otherwise, I’d have assumed that it had been taken straight from a Nintendo Switch console bundle. However, if one of these does wind up on your doorstep then unlike a controller, it has the potential to do some serious damage to your Switch.

Fake Nintendo Switch Dock Markings Comparison99% certainly isn’t 100% though and upon close inspection, I was finally able to spot a tell-tale sign that the housing had been cloned. While the fake dock may have gotten all the details right on the underside, the manufacturer wasn’t able to match the fine detail used in Nintendo’s moulding process....

That's impressive, the Wii is a robust little console as well.

Wondering why their isn't a rugby game coming out this year, since the world cup is in Japan. Maybe not enough money in it. Super smash rugby. :)

Just give Jonah Lomu rugby a bit of polish, update team details and id be happy.
The EA games were actually decent back in the day too.

For anyone interested, the new host of NVC is
Casey. I like her and not just because of her Bayonetta resemblance. :-) Though since I'm not a Pokémon or Monster Hunter player when she starts about that stuff I tune out

Ugh. I'd rather Peer host it, but he being the main man probably couldn't be relied on to be there every single week or maybe he doesn't want to be the host full-time. Casey isn't very knowledgeable and she hasn't been on it all that much, except for the past few weeks and prior to that, once in a blue moon. Zach would have been a better choice. IGN don't have a whole load of options. I wouldn't want Brian as host either. Sam Claiborne has made a really good host any time he has been on the show. Again, it must be a year at least since he's last been on IGN NVC.

I do wonder what they do all day because their output seems to be very little, certainly when it comes to Nintendo.

Their Xbox & PlayStation stuff is much worse than the Nintendo content. It's their last week doing video so I watched the 3 of them & there is not much in the way of personality or news to learn from them.
They don't have anyone that ticks all the boxes when it comes to Nintendo knowledge. That's their big problem with all of their platform podcasts unless they've reviewed a game they rarely contribute little of value in terms of discussing it. It's why I stopped listening as it's people repeating things they came across elsewhere comparing a game to another, metroidvania, pick up & play....blah, blah.
NVC was so lucky Otero was there in the WiiU years as now it's rough to listen to even when the switch is a hot product. The fact the old host got sacked for plagiarism which says a lot about who they hire.
Now basically yer wan likes Monster Hunter, Altano likes Links Awakening, Peer likes buying Joycons & Zack didn't even know what the Fire Emblem game was called. Some of them favour one game/series far more than anything else like a Persona, Pokemon, Destiny, Undertale, Kingdom Hearts, Hollow Knight or whatever but if you ask them to discuss anything not released in the last 5 years most of them would likely be clueless.

Are there any other podcasts you'd recommend? Have tried Power Pros and Radio Free Nintendo recently and found them extremely lacking...

Not specifically Nintendo, but they do cover Nintendo stuff - I listen to:

Game Scoop (another weekly IGN podcast)
Kinda Funny Games Daily (which is a daily hour-long podcast)
    Kinda Funny Gamescast (weekly)
    DLC (weekly)
    Whats Good Games (weekly)

    Why spoiler Casey above?

I think she does a good job and is good at keeping things on track (very like how Jose used to be).

I still listen to NVC every week and they have a good mix of co-hosts at the moment.
I wish they'd talk more around the fringes though - there are a lot of games that don't get touched by NVC at all (they tend to skew towards 1st party discussion).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,260 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

I just spoilered for anyone who wanted to listen and find out themselves.
I did listen back in the "Be nicer to Audrey" and Jose eras. Managed only a couple of Filip then started listening regularly again over the past couple of months.
Brian buys everything so he does tend to talk about lesser talked about games.
Wouldn't mind more of Sam. He was a regular before.
Think the big problem they've faced lately, as they keep pointing out, is all the news seems to break after the show is recorded. So by the time they're talking about it, it's a week later.
I listen to Scoop as well but do skip parts of that as well.
Used to listen to Beyond but just got fed up of it

I think it will help that they're bringing forward the release of the podcast now that they are audio only. NVC will be out on Thursday instead of Friday from now on.

Got a Toad wiimote plus as a backup cause I've a load of Wii/Wii u games to start/finish/replay. Was 45 quid from UK via Amazon Italy. It's new and sealed. 3rd party wiimotes are crap and I didn't want a dodgy 2nd hand one.

Also got a 128GB micro SD card on sale from Amazon UK for the auld switch. Have no time to play anything extra but I had to get an SD card for some reason.

    Itches are now scratched. :)

SWITCH CONTROLLER SUPPORT APPARENTLY BEING ADDED TO CHROME

    https://nintendosoup.com/switch-controller-support-being-added-to-chrome/

It's just speculation but it could lead on to something more significant, Google are rumoured to be working on a PC game streaming service, that lets Google’s powerful servers stream and play even the most intensive games directly to Chrome web browsers on PCs of all types with almost no lag, and not just on high end PCs. Some have speculated the service might even come to Switch.

Google are holding an event for the Game Developer’s Conference next week, on 19th March, which may reveal details on what they have planned.

Gonna put this here as it's not technically 'news' or a release, but king zell on resetera has talked about a game he expected to be announced this month has actually just been hinted at instead. This is likely to be the Monster Hunter hint by one of the 3DS game directors, letters spelling out 'NEXT' in a picture he uploaded. He also expects another third party announcement for Switch sometime in March too, something that hasn't been rumoured apparently.

He has also mentioned that the Devil May Cry collection may be coming to Switch too. He has a really good record with info so far.
