What a well organised government we have. We're introducing this in July 2016. Ah no, we'll introduce it on July 1st 2017 after giving it time to hit news headlines 3 days beforehand to give yis all a few days to be ready/panic. But nah, we were only kidding. It won't come in til September 2017.
And then.... Sorry we meant September 2018, not this year. Yee should know us better than to take us seriously by now ffs. And even AFTER we bring it in next year it will all be grand coz we'll create a watchdog for yee to complain to after the bin companies fleece yee.
Won't do any good for your prices but it will give yee someone to ring and give Joe Duffy a break.
Til then, stay tuned, coz ya wouldn't know what we'd do next!

FF give up on their idea of a regulator to be established in the Dail tonight. Instead we will have a 'watchdog' to keep an eye out for price gouging. Can't see this ending well.....

In the media this morning that Panda are issuing new contracts to their customers. Only have an Irish Times link at the moment.

It includes a raft of new charges and penalties but most worrying, Panda are seeking "The right to enter on to customers’ property to inspect bins".

I love the 30eur charge to clean a bin at the end of a contract. So potentially 90 EUR if you have three bins. They provide the service at the moment for 6.50eur a bin FFS. A near six fold increase.

No regulator either, what about an appeals process to contest fines or charges...what a mess.

Without going through the whole bin before it goes into the truck, how do they know if you have put something in the wrong bin??

Apparently camera's on the trucks that can spot items in the wrong bins.

I would be very surprised if their staff would agree to rummage through bins. It would be a health and safety nightmare for operators.

Apart from the fact that many areas have very little competition, the €30 per bin clean nearly acts as a dis-incentive to switch provided if other providers are only a little cheaper.
You will think twice about switching to other companies if they are close in price and you have to pay €90 to have bins cleaned.
The bin clean is a nonsense tbh - it should be either factored into their overall prices or give customer option of cleaning bins themselves.

As for the fines, what about in built up areas where anyone could open your bin on their way home from the pub and drop their curry chips into your recycling bin!
Or anyone put wrong rubbish into anyone else's bins.
Families that have kids - kids might put wrong item into wrong bin, etc...

All these issue and more are going to cause mayhem - and the consumer will be protected by who? The government, watchdog....no the regulator, oh wait there isnt going to be one!

I questioned that issue with Greyhound about the bins being out early in the morning and other than taking a day off work to sit and look at your bin until it's collected, how can you stop people dumping rubbish into you bin cuz sure as hell it would happen!!

i googled it before and you can get the same one from the UK a bit cheaper (not too much cheaper but a bit)

Can you not swap easily between bins whenever a bin goes out

In fairness, **** as it sounds, we are all responsible for our own bins until the second it goes on the truck. No other way around it.
