You couldn't be worse than the guy on my team last night doing the community challenge. He was called 8 times for the 3sec key violation.....8 TIMES.....get out of the ****ing key :pac: Couldn't believe we actually won that game.

I'm locked out of playing any online pick up games now I'm level 20. My first character was able to play them fine, just not get any xp. What's the point of locking people out.

Ok, I'm not that bad. I mean, I understand the rules at least!

I think I just need to spend more time with the RS and the dribbling moves. My timing on the release of my shot is horrific too. I guess it's kinda like me going into a game of FIFA without understanding the skill moves on the RS fully.

There's some great dribbling skills tutorials for live on YouTube., speed and Max dribbling helps a lot though.

2K have all time teams this year and the Bulls look savage!

I think its very very telling that no footage off actual gameplay is online for 2K18 yet.....its just a re-hashed 2K17. Yet they want people to pre order with nothing to show whats improved or fixed, I know the demo is out on the 8th Sept but still I think it speaks volumes that the gameplay is so limited.

I have NBA Live 18 destroys them in sales this year.

    @Zero

I am deffo getting a hard copy too....dont give a rats ass if 2K is the bizzo I wont be getting it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,842 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Must look online if I can order it for delivery with the discount. I read on other forums UK players can't seem to get it either in their shops.

As for 2K, they aren't even showing this at Gamescom (on at the moment) and they show it there every year!. They have a new engine that reduces animations and gives you more control but a dev admitted that because it's new they haven't figured it all out yet, that's a bit worrying. I wouldn't touch that preorder with a barge pole.

One of the best things about Live is the lack of VC, very refreshing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,842 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

The EA T&C's for the dscount have removed all countires outside America. Only place we can get the discount over here is on PSN. The Game Collection usually does good prices but they don't even have the game on their website.

Might just have to bite the bullet and get the digital version for the good price....still pisses me off that I have the 2K17 sitting on my hard drive and never play it and cant get credit for it or sell it.

The exact same, sickened I didn't get 2k17 physical, also have fallout 4 and mass effect digitally that I would have traded in ages ago. Plenty of time til 15th September to make a decision anyway.

    2K18 Prelude trophies leaked

    https://psnprofiles.com/trophies/6584-nba-2k18-the-prelude

Looks like they will be following Live where you play street ball and get drafted to the NBA from there.

I'll tell you one thing, if they still have Park where you have to stand in a spot for 10 minutes waiting for a game, it's an instant loss for me. Live was so refreshing, join a lobby, wait 30 secs, play a game, repeat. Park in 2k was atmospheric but nobody wants to stand around watching others play unless they specifically choose spectate mode. You should be able to wander around the park but when you want to play, join a lobby that auto puts you into a game that's open, even if it means playing on a different park.

2k Run The Neighbourhood stream live now, basically my court is now my hood but it's everyone's hood. Everyone walking around, getting haircuts, shopping at footlocker, playing at the park, jumping into career games, all done from the hood. Looks cool but screams look at all this cool stuff you can buy.... With VC. There's a recording studio in the hood.... So yeah looks you can be a rapper as well. One thing I noticed, mofo's waiting at the side of park games...

You pick a primary and secondary archetype for your character to make them even more unique. Will watch the full thing later when I can skip through. Currently the 2k guys basically blowing themselves.

New Patch for NBA Live is out. Main thing being you can now keep playing after you reach max level. Also some nice gameplay changes. Think I'll make a new guy again as I read you can pick your NBA team by finishing the draft with the number of your teams pick. Like the Bulls had 16 pick so if I force a bad game and finish at 16, I should get picked by the Bulls, I don't wanna start with Philly.

In NBA 2k18 news, here are vids showing off the new career mode playground thing. Looks cool but if the servers fall to **** (and they probably will), this mode will be crippled. Also, they said the highest scorers each day will have their character displayed on the 'Big Wall'. One of the courts has a 4 point line now as well. Just these 2 things alone means you're going to get more glory hunters than usual shooting up 3's (and now 4's) all day. The badge system sounds like people are gonna be grinding badges in the park even more so it encourages ridiculous play. As cool as the mode looks, just the thought of how it plays out would have me leaning towards Live. Will see how the Prelude handles it anyway.

Gotta admit NBA 2K18 Neightbourhood looking alright. They said as well that VC will only get you to rank 85 but it's different from 85 to 99. They were hinting at you can't just buy your way to 95 but don't know how else you could level up. Also the badges can be worked on in practice. You can do specific drills like corner 3's for Corner 3 Specialist badge.

Haven't watched the videos yet, but that sounds great.... maybe even too easy but there was too much of a grind in 2K17.

I don't want to have to bump the difficulty down to rookie and win games by a zillion points to get badges.

Yeah they said they want to do away with single player grinding. They also said they have rewritten their online code and beefed up their servers but fool me.....well, way more than once but they've made me a bitter bollox about 2k.

Saying that, 2k had a finance call lately where they were fallating GTA Online for the money it makes them so I can definitely see the bigwigs yelling VC VC VC at any dev meetings.

The new update for Live is brilliant!! Might have to rethink my 6ft slasher as they have really buckled down on drives to the rim with contested layups. The new community event against the YouTube all stars is good as well, the Jordan reward pack has the best items I've seen so far but they only unlock 1 item with each win instead of the usual of all unlocking with 1 win.

Online still has horrible payers though. A guy stood in front of me for the inbound pass and then wouldn't dribble it over the half way line. Then our Big would stand in front of me, get the inbound, try to do dribble moves past the whole team. New patch meant he didn't get far, kept losing the ball and missing layups. Rage inducing having to just watch it happen every play. Saying that, they started coming around by the 4th game and no one wanted to the ball in fear of losing it. Passing really opened up and we won the game. Really shows how much the patch helps but it's very frustrating when you get stuck with dopes.

New update again for Live 18 demo. Updated roster (Kyrie specifically) and added Celtics and Rockets.

In 2k18 news, I saw a career video where a guy had dev credits, about half a mill. He upgraded his character from 55 to 85 rating and it only cost him 190k VC. Haircuts coding 1000 vc and all the other **** you can buy for customisation and move sets, you'd want just ring up 2k and give em your credit card details now. I brought it up on the OS forums and the amount of people defending VC was mind boggling and sad.

But you earn VC from playing career. Yeah, takes ages, but i'm currently in season 4 of my career in 2K16, and i have more VC than i need, without spending a cent! Took a while, but i got there!

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,842 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Less and less vc earned every year though. I know you can earn vc through all the different modes but you shouldn't have to play 1-2 NBA games to afford a hair cut. Then you go online and play against guys who just shelled out on a load of vc and rated 80+ compared to your 55+. You shouldn't be starting in the NBA at a 55 rating period, but that's just another incentive to buy vc and give him a boost. I spend more time think about VC than just playing the game. That's where Live excels imo. With Live, the upgrades to stats feel very natural, don't even think about how much I'm gonna earn per game, just that I enjoy the game.

Live seems like it will be behind big time with actual customisation though. If we could just have Live gameplay with 2k modes, we could have the perfect ball game.

    A whole lot of nothing.

Skipped through it and found it a waste of time even at that.

I'll see how it plays against the AI in career... if defenders still stick to you like glue unless they leave on help I'll likely leave it.

As career is where it'll earn its hours and every year it just tapers off since every opponent is the same: play off PG and they run the same 2/3 plays every game, AI always stick to you, robotic double teams that happen passing a magical line(only, never in diff areas).

I'm holding off trying LIVE until it comes to access so I can have a proper go at the full game.
The early price should still exist for when I finish the trial in case I want to purchase.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,842 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I think Live early trial starts Friday, ****ing Sony not teaming with EA on that.

Finished 2k18 prelude there. My God, that was one of the worst 45 minutes of basketball I've played in my life. Everything about it is horrible...

Player creator - shyte, 5 haircuts, no facial hair, looks nothing like me.

Story - goofy, your nickname is DJ. You have given up bball to pursue a career in dj'ing. It mustn't have gone well cuz you are back and you try out the local street all comp. Acting is OTT, load of 2k Devs in game, Rachael from 2ktv but looks absolutely nothing like her! You play 3 street games and get approached by a scout from the NBA team you pick at the start. You play 2 scrimmage games with that team and agent says he has some news for you, prelude ends. Can't replay it.

Gameplay - horrible, they said they got rid of animations but I got stuck in one on nearly every play. Receive inbound pass, I don't press anything, and my guy automatically takes 2 steps forward with the ball. I'd try a dribble move to go one way, DJ would get stuck in an animation and start moving the other way so I'd have to give up my first plan and have to go the other way instead. There is such a feeling of disconnect. I felt like I was floating around, even dunks had zero impact. It all looks very cartoony/arcadey as well.

There was a foul on nearly every drive to the basket, I got so ****ing bored of taking freethrows. Thought they would have decreased fouls from last year but nope. The ai defense is stuck to you compared to you playing D and feeling very loose.

Passing is still ****ing broken. I'm in the middle, 3 guys to my left, 1 under the basket. I press left on the d stick and press pass. Yupp, pass to the guy under the rim for a turnover. This happened a lot in my 5 games.

AI is stupid as well. Multiple times, I'd hit a guy wide open who'd just stand there and only shoot when the d got in his face. I'd call picks but my teammate would roll away before I'd have a chance to run my man into him. The AI just feels dead, no personality, no connection to what's going on.

Sound, I usually don't give a **** about sound but the sound effects feel off. Exaggerated loud noises for catching a pass, blocks, shoes squeaking and nets from swishes, all sound disconnected from the actions themselves, enough to make me notice.

After the demo finished, I felt pissed off with the game, when it wasn't boring, it was infuriating. I thought I'd get to try out the neighbourhood but no, even let me play an NBA pick up game. The 2ku tutorial is awful, can't get any flow going.

NBA Live 18 hands down has the best gameplay but what I'm reading from the early access, it's lacking in modes and features. Will need to read up on it more

I'd definitely encourage everyone to try it! Online I see a complete split down the middle of people loving it / hating it. I'm going to give it another go on a different profile just to see if I had a few bad games.

It's mad on other forums, twitter, etc how done people swear 2k has the better gameplay and others say Live is better, can't find a middle ground.

Looking forward to yer thoughts on it.

Also if anyone plays the 10 hour trial of Live, if you can post your thoughts on that as well? Does Ultimate Team look like it has since depth like My Team? Custom courts, custom jerseys, single player, challenges?

My guy is 7 2 and in cut scenes hes tiny :pac:
And i havent even got as far as the Asian girl
    Ah there she is

I played live and 2k back to back last night. Bball games make me very vocal at my tv, more so than other games. Playing live, it was mostly positive, 2k mostly negative. I think that tells me enough what to choose. Also, playing 2k after live, it looks cartoonist with faded colours. Live looks so much better to play. I just wish live had more modes though. I'm not sure how far The One and Ultimate Team will do me. It's so ****ing stupid America can get physical copies for 35 quid, I'd nearly import it.
