Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Absolutely brilliant set piece. Love that kind of carefully planned set piece. Deserved goal on the run of play.

Sunday morning parks defending by Ward there. Went to sleep and let his man steal a yard on him.

I hope we get a penalty, and one of the lads (a Dubliner) shouts out

    "Let Christie take it"

    Every. Single. Thread.

Ref with the yellow out again.

Frustrating goal to concede because Austria are muck. Not sure what Houghton is on about that they deserve to be in front.

Great finish but terrible defending from Ireland

Good set piece routine by Austria, Ward has been really poor so far today.

Well worked set piece but that was terrible tracking from Ward.

I also think Randolph could have got down to it earlier. He was positioned well to be able to get down and stop it but was very slow.

Austria will park the bus now, hit us on the counter and win 2-0

Keano said he wanted us to go to war. This is more like Dad's Army.

Ward is absolutely rubbish, always has been

This may suit us. O'Neill doesn't have the stones to handle the tag of favourites, so we may as well be plucky underdog again

Yes, teams just never come back from a goal behind.

I f**king hate corners taken short

Especially when your attacking options are limited at best

I actually still fancy us for a draw

We are going to lose this. This Austria team has a load of injuries and suspensions and we are making them look world class. Also what the **** is brady doing on the right wing.

Lovely ball in by Christie,Walters jogs towards it and MacLean stands still looking on. Our strikers rarely if ever gamble on getting on the end of a cross. Infuriating.

Austria already wasting time. Mad when you consider the level their players are at domestically compared to Ireland's.

Arter was looking for someone to pass to there and no one looked for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Arter was begging for an option of a forward pass. Nothing.

How many times have Ireland played Austria? Feels like an annual event.

How is Stephen Ward still an option in 2017?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,164 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

    Brady should start LB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

That's 2 decent chances for Walters now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,607 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

    Get Murphy and Hoolahan on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,600 ✭✭✭✭siblers

    Walters shooting is abysmal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

44 minutes in, and no attempts on target. Says it all really. Plenty of the ball, but fcuk all threat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Might be time to bring Hoolahan on for Ward. Stick Brady at left-back, move Hendrick to the right, have Wes just off Walters.

Say this every ireland game.. but! When Trap played like this people called for his head?..
Why does MoN seem to get a free pass?
    It's absolutely dire stuff,,

Getting to within 30 yards of goal and then going sideways and back, just not enough imagination in our play.

Dunno why people are surprised. O'Neill has always played **** on a stick football.

I mean Glenn Whelan and Stephen Ward should not be in that Irish starting 11. Ward is not good enough and Whelan was never good enough.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,855 ✭✭✭irishguitarlad

Is it o neills orders that ward can't bomb on? There was a time there when arter was moving his hand tellimg him to run and he didnt budge.

To be fair Whelan is ok Ward is poor.

Dire. 1 chance for Walters and that was about it. Ireland have also been caught on the counter a few times and have left big spaces in front of the back four which is quite funny since they are playing with two holding mids. No confidence to play in midfield, nobody making an effort to connect the play high up the pitch, defenders too willing to lump it forward instantly, attackers hiding. All of this against a team bereft of confidence.
