Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There was an incident in the first half when McClean could have retained possession but instead booted the ball out of play and clattered the Austrian instead. Brain dead stuff

Dunno why people are surprised. O'Neill has always played **** on a stick football.

I mean Glenn Whelan and Stephen Ward should not be in that Irish starting 11. Ward is not good enough and Whelan was never good enough.

Paul Green would be better than Whelan yeah?

No one questioning the the kickout right at the end of the second half that went to the Austria left back but picked up INSIDE the box? I think the assistant reg even flagged for it. But the ref gave free out instead of an Ireland free.

My understanding is that the ball needs to leave the box before another player touches it.

Edit: just checked the rules, seems that the kick out is just retaken in that situation. Which is what happened. Interesting one

I actually agree with Dunphy on Hoolahan and Whelan.

Not that Hoolahan is world beater but he would offer more creativity than we are showing now.

As for Whelan I don't rate him at all, I don't see what he offers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,989 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Might be time to bring Hoolahan on for Ward. Stick Brady at left-back, move Hendrick to the right, have Wes just off Walters.

I'd be making this change myself. Ward hasn't been great today and Brady is wasted out on the right. I'd prefer Horgan to come out on the right and have an actual winger whose right footed out there but can't see two changes being made at half time.

I feel like this was how we largely played against Wales until the red card.

Terrified now we won't be able to just turn on the football after that terrible display.

Time for Daryl Murphy , we have one forward Walters who often pops up out the wings

We do look nervous amd hopefully that will change. I think we are a second half team as in we are usually **** in the first half and we slightly improve in the second half and then go full tilt with 10mins to go.....easy peasy lads so relax they got this.

He's been praised for his starting selection before when it was puzzling but worked out but today was a terrible choice to start Walters up there. It's hard to see even what kind of game they planned to play with him up there. We've got through quite a few rough performances before from someone doing something or the team playing well for 20 minutes period and the same needs to happen here. Not going to happen unless serious changes though.

Dire. 1 chance for Walters and that was about it. Ireland have also been caught on the counter a few times and have left big spaces in front of the back four which is quite funny since they are playing with two holding mids. No confidence to play in midfield, nobody making an effort to connect the play high up the pitch, defenders too willing to lump it forward instantly, attackers hiding. All of this against a team bereft of confidence.

See what you've done MON/Delaney. I find myself agreeing with an AIG post.

I was surprised he didn't start Murphy. I wasn't surprised with the omission of Hoolahan or O'Shea. Though Hoolahan should come on now as well. Playing Hendrick as a number 10 makes no sense.

Not a great first half. Started sh1te came into the game a bit and then conceded which knocked the stuffing out of us. Atmosphere isn't great either except for the lads in the bottom of the south stand. People really seem reluctant to make noise - I dont get it

No idea what Glen Whelan offers. Not just Glen Whelan 2017, any version of Glen Whelan. The lad cannot even run. Now if he had outstanding vision, or could read a game fantastically well to make important interceptions then fair enough. But he doesn't.

As a previous poster mentioned, despite playing 2 midfielders in holding positions we look wide open for business in the middle of the field. Its always been this way with Whelan in the side. He offers no authority on the ball when in possession and doesn't have the tools to effectively shield a back 4 (i.e cover ground, close down, make tackles etc...)

What the f*ck are his strengths supposed to be ? Are we all missing something?

    Situation is critical.

They know well they can finish us off, I fancy them to get a second fairly soon.

Why is MON going mad? Dragovic obviously got the ball.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Prodl being the worst cb on a pitch that contains Shane Duffy is quite the achievement.

Needs to concentrate on a change of personnel and tactics.

He'll think we're doing ok. He'll believe Austria's players are better than ours and we're containing them ok. He'll be seeing our half chances as good chances we should be taking.

    This actually makes me sad

That's why I'll never really trust McClean. One simple look up and he'd have fed it to Brady easily.

Instead it's his usual brainless smack towards the box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

Nothing wrong with that tackle; he got the ball.

How much longer is he going to wait before bringing on Wes, our most creative player spends far too much time on the bench then we talk about not having the players
