Large Scooter vs DCT Bike - advice please

Folks, disregarding all the practicalities which are doubtless extremely relevant such as (used) price, fuel economy, storage space etc; can anyone give me a steer on what will be the more fun to drive for a novice: something like a Burgmann 'heavy' scooter/moped, 400/650 type; or something like a Honda NC700 DCT...???

No interest in a 'proper' bike for variety of reasons, some of which include very dodgy ankles which I am pretty certain would not stand up to shifting in commuting type traffic. I'm built like a prop so figure cc's are my friend.

Won't need much/any storage. No pillion. Will be able to shower & change into clothes I can keep at the office.

Mon-Fri 15-30km daily commute likely to be typical. Mostly in traffic.

Buddy has been doing the scooter bit for a few years now and loves it. Uses public transport when weather is too bad. I was all set to go same route when an ex-colleague in Boston mentioned the Honda which he has & loves. He rides it come rail, hail or shine.

The super scooters would be fairly wide for filtering but offers better weather protection, while the Honda will be easier to filter but offer little weather protection. Look at our continental cousins and there cities are full of scooters and not so many bikes.

If possible try both and see which suits, as if you are dodgy on the gears getting a foot down might be an issue.

Ive a burgerman 400 and its harder to filter on than my S1000rr.wider front end and mirrors stick out further on the Burgerman too.

Nippy little fecker though, great for zipping up and down the M50 and into town.

Rode her from Cork to Dublin, and was comfy all along the route.
Loads of space under the rider and pillion seat too,can store a helmet and backpack in her.

Honda NC700 series is basically a scooter in a motorcycle form.
If you see them with no clothes on they look just like a maxi scooter low and longish.
If I had dodgy ankles I'd be thinking T-Max or similar.
Great weather protection, twist and go and plenty of punch around town.
I'd be slow to go to DCT, I'd prefer to go for a CVT which is well proven and seems to be very reliable, the DCT has had a few funny reports and seems needlessly complex to me.

Think one of the reasons my American pal likes his one so much is that it's a foot forward/cruiser set up rather than a 'regular' bike one. Very upright. Very novice friendly. But that set up only seems available over here/UK if going for much bigger engine units that the c.700cc ones...

Have switched from a 650 bike to a Kawasaki J300 scooter as most of my miles are commuting. 70mpg, better weather protection, can do 70mph easily on motorway. And its better looking than most other scooters IMHO :-)

The same here , bought a kawasaki j300 in march, my first time on a scooter, they are so good at what they do, commuting , weather protection , fuel economy, load carrying , comfort , parking , cheap insurance if you have a bike already, I wouldn't be without it now. totally converted.

Good to hear about that Kawasaki - was considering one lately after seeing one along grand canal in traffic.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
