Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Interesting friendly game about to start. Teams:
France XI: Lloris, Mendy, Umtiti, Varane, Sidibe, Lemar, Pogba, Kante, Dembele, Giroud, Mbappe.

England XI: Heaton, Trippier, Bertrand, Jones, Cahill, Stones, Sterling, Dier, Kane, Alli, Oxlade-Chamberlain

Big test for Southgate's side here. France have some squad.

Can't see us getting anything over there tonight. 2-0 to France.

    You were saying? :pac:

    1-0 thanks to Kane.

It was a nice move, video reffing in use tonight

Looked like another great goal for Giroud but offside flag denies him. Exciting game.

Is the different networks broadcasting from opposite ends of the pitch to maximise ad revenue a new thing? Switched channels and was laughing at Harry Kane scoring at the wrong end :(

Umtiti equalises after a good save from Heaton.

I was saying that in my opinion, we won't get anything there tonight. 1-1 now.

Umtiti equalises after a good save from Heaton.

Was it a good save? Looked as tho he made a meal of it and palmed it into worse possible area.

Exciting game, england look good going forward esp sterlinf as do france.

Opinion seems to be divided on it.

Dier went very close there for England.

France taking thier chances, England less so.

Sidibe makes it 2-1 after Heaton denies Dembele. I think Heaton was unfortunate again.

Good game though, some good football and attacking play on both sides.

Always a sickener if as a keeper you make a save and concede anyway, esp twice

2-1 to France at half-time. Much more entertaining than I expected. I thought it might be both sides going through the motions since it's at the end of the season, but both teams are going for it.

I heard there's supposed to be quite a lot of changes in the second half so the game may lose its edge somewhat.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been a liability so far, keeps losing possession. Ali been invisible. Needs tactical tweak, Demebele running riot. Pogba very good too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Penalty? Using the technology it seems.

Edit: Varane sent off. And Kane equalises from the spot.

    Video ref killed the game

Dont agree with that at all

    Bit harsh for a friendly

That red card is an awful decision.

Didn't think that was a red at all, in fact thought the video refs wouldn't award the pen

Hopefully that stupid decision is enough to slow the spread of this video reffing crap.

Looks like the video refs need video refs

What the f did I just see? Absolutely farcical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

Probably was a penalty, but never a red card for me. It was an accidental collision, not a deliberate trip or pull back.

    Because things were better before?

what happened the rule change about the double punishment. you cant give a penalty away and get a red card?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Maybe technology is not the answer if idiots like that using it will be what we are relying on, thought a red card & a penalty couldn't be given together. Or was that another made up rule, they have ditched already?!

Yes. Football is the best sport in the world. It won't be when this **** takes over.

Video refs got it right. He fouled the player and didn't attempt to play the ball. So red card and penalty.

Complain about the rules, not video refs interpreting the rules correctly.

Yes, you can. If the referee decides the challenge wasn't a genuine attempt to play the ball, he can issue a red card. Handball on the line, for example. Or pulling a player back. Or tripping a player when the ball is clearly not within playing distance. Also, in this case, Lloris may well have made the save as he was rushing off his line. Very harsh red card.

England look like mugs and you have to question some of those English price tags.

Jaysus France should be winning this even with 10 men

    Lallana on for Trippier, 4231

    Bloody good goal!

This is some generation of players for France.

    3-2 France. Dembele.

Feels like England are down to 10, not France

England central midfield is utter muck.

Hard to tell who has 11 here. Mbappe that's just cheeky

This French side can make a real run at things over the next 4-6 years, unbelieveable quality of players all over & a very good age profile

No did you not see England won the u-20 World Cup there at the weekend, almost certain to win the 2022 senior WC so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

The rumour mill had Eric Dier valued at ?40 million, I know Daniel Levy has a good reputation but even he couldnt wrangle that. The guy is woefully poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

That was actually a really enjoyable game. Totally unexpected as it looked a stupid time to play a friendly when all players really just want to be on holidays by now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Dier and oxcham possibly the worst midfield pairing since the game was invented. No game intelligence at all

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,288 ✭✭✭mickmackey1

No surprise that Southgate cannot tactically deploy the extra man. And a shambles defensively.

As the great Eammo would say; Southgate's a spoofer. He's tactically inept. Dier (who shouldn't be in the same postcode as an England squad) and Ox as midfielders sitting in front of the back 4 (er, 3!). We'll do nothing under Southgate. So, no change there then!

England are the same as ever. Mediocre. There is no technical in their players.
