We were hacked when we had a prepaid debit card with another company, it was hell to get the money refunded, NOT keen to repeat the experience.

Now I have to visit an area where my then credit card was skimmed*(I believe the card no was taken electronically when I was on public transport)

*Not sure if that is the correct term.

Bank says we have to talk to CC on phone, we out of coverage with the team till the day I go back to where my CC was skimmed the first time.

Anyone have any tips on how to prevent this happening again?

    Get a Revolut card.

With a debit card you can:
    Set up a 2nd account
Only maintain a small balance on the account linked to the card.

Or use a prepaid like Revolut, N26 etc.

Get a RFID blocking wallet if you think it was skimmed wirelessly on public transport. This will stop them wirelessly accessing your card data.
