Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well there has to be a reason why he’s never really taken penalties throughout his career.. maybe he’s not that good at them? So his stats might be just the same? It’s all ifs and buts.. at the end of the day penalties are a skill in itself and they are still classed as a goal..

You could just as well say “ well if he didn’t pass the ball to Firmino/Mane there he would have scored and his stats would be higher”

He takes penalties for Egypt doesn't he? At Roma Totti was the main penalty taker (or most of the ones I saw). Milner was our main taker but I actually can't remember us having many this season now that I think about it.

Edit: We've only had 3 in the league this season. Salah took two (one was saved) and Firmino the other.

So his stats wouldn’t go up if he took them all really. As he has a 50/50 rate he could have missed the other just as easily as score it. At the end of the day the penalty taker still has to put the ball in the net. It’s really not that easy.

30 goals with no pens is more impressive than 30 goals that includes 5 pens.

on paper. 5 penalties that are the winning goal in a game against rival are more impressive than 5 tap-ins against relegation fodder in big wins

Well if Salah was on penalties he'd probably have a few more goals so if you can exclude penalty goals you can compare like with like?

Should we exclude free kicks aswell then? Maybe Salah isnt the best penalty kick taker at Liverpool. It makes no sense to pick and choose what kind of goal scored

He still recovered exceptionally quickly tbf. Most players will lose a yard after an injury like that, and they can slowly get it back with playtime/physio. But for an older player, who was already lacking pace, it's extra noticeable.

Reports emerging both manchester clubs will battle it out for neymar in the summer...no surprise there considering it's the 2 biggest cheque book managers in the world lol

International break. Papers need a story. Make one up.

I could see Neymar going to Real Madrid either this summer or next though.

More urgently needed at United you would think. Would Pogba go to PSG in part exchange?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Wouldn't be a bad move for PSG to move him on for a profit as his performances haven't risen. Might be a blessing to get rid of the Brazilian contingent who contributed so little this year.
Neymar pulled out of away trips in Ligue 1 & when the games actually mattered only played for himself against Real; which wouldn't have happened him at Barca.
I'd be surprised if City bought him as the high earners there aren't on near what he's earning at PSG. It'd suit United as they are easy to negotiate with after what Sanchez & Pogba managed to get.

Neymar would be rather problematic for united imo. United need a midfield. Getting neymar would just stretch distance from back line to front even more making it even harder for their defence to stay compact. Might make them more exciting to watch though.

Manu u should swap pogba for verratti and rabiot

I would argue on paper considering the amount Neymar would cost in both transfer fees and wages that neither need him but that's just on paper lol Pep building a young vibrant team but Neymar is obviously better than Sane and Sterling. The arrival of Sanchez at united should also mean they don't need Neymar but again he's better than Sanchez and it doesn't help when a player comes out saying he's struggling mentally.

But yes I agree Man U need Neymar more but if Sanchez already on on something silly like £600k a week then what on earth would Neymar be on? Pogba would surely want to stay and fight for his place rather than doing a Di Maria packing it in to go elsewhere.

  • Registered Users Posts: 678 ✭✭✭beya2009

It would be fascinating to see how Neymar would get on under a Mourinho or Pep as both clearly do not tolerate any nonsense/insubordination. There has been reports than Unai Emery has been very lenient with Neymar basically letting him do what he wants (lots of parties and all that stuff).

... at this stage is have Veratti on his own over Pogba, never mind Rabiot too. PSG would be nuts to offer that.

Agreed. We seem to have a pretty tight unit at the Etihad, and I don't think Pep would want to do anything to undermine that. Plus we're not too badly served in the final third of the pitch. We'll need a long term successor for Fernandinho in a year or so; that'd be Pep's main priority, I'd imagine.

Weird choice for the live 3pm game today. Even allowing for the amount of united fans in Ireland, surely the Saints/West Ham game is the more important one this afternoon?

Mane is having a game to forget so far. A clearance off the Palace line, an offside goal and a yellow for simulation. Probably a hat trick coming in the second half.

He's basically ignored the rules. He'd be well aware of the fact too, just too cowardly to follow through. Shouldn't ref another PL game again after that.

He's been terrible for both teams. Liverpool could have had a peno and Mane could have been off.

Worst of all though was the amount of advantages hes gotten wrong. He's clearly called back both teams when there was a clear advantage and has let them play on when he should have been giving the frees.
