Looking at MOTD and the thing that stood out for me on utds first goal is that they had 2 players in 20 yards of space out near the corners of the 18 yard box. Ball went from one to the other and it's a goal. Next attack shown and again Utd have free reign over the space right across the front of the box, the whole Everton defence is far too deep and compact all around the 6 yard box. Couple of more time since they just don't seem interested in covering any of that space at all.

Some context, warrants a discussion in the general thread IMO as so many had written him off. Some start it's been. Best performer in the league so far?

Those Matic stats are only United stats.

    Still impressive none the less.

His stats for the entire league have him placed:

    Tackles - 19th

    Tackles Won - 15th

    Interceptions - 24th

    Passes - 8th

    Successful Passes - 7th

    Touches - 5th

It's only for ManUtd. Still superb start and could have been ManUtd player of the month. Him and Pogba were equally good.

On bare stats alone Schneiderlin is absolutely killing it. Top 5 in league for tackles and interceptions. His passing stats very impressive too. So if that's your mantra United have signed an inferior player to what they had.

It wasn't very clear where the source was from, honestly thought it was the entire league. But on the general consensus of play I would still argue he's one of the top performers so far.

Not sure where your stats are from but Schneiderlin has 2 more interceptions than Matic and the same amount of tackles won with Schneiderlin having more tackles lost. Other than that he is behind on everything else. He has roughly half the amount of successful passes and a lower pass completion percentage.

Via whoscored.com. Morgan is 2nd in the league on average tackles per game and 4th in average interceptions. Matic has played almost 100 more minutes than him so he's naturally going to have more touches ect, averages are the better measure. But it's probably way too early in the season to read anything into these especially since United haven't faced a difficult opponent yet.

  • Everton
So he's not a standout performer then?
The player you are beefing up ironically plays for Everton, which wasn't a difficult opponent according to you.

It's basically about him having a massive wang.

Just Google Lukaku chant and it should crop up.

    It's horrendous.

No irony. His stats are pretty damn good. One good performer isn't going to make a whole lot of difference though. Rest of the side are under performing so far. You can be a standout player in a bad team, Scott Parker once got player of the year in a side that finished 20th.

Wheras United have tonnes of lads who are top of their performing charts from top assister to top goal scorer, most clean sheets. Pogba is top rated player on a good few reputable websites.

    To that point well put.

By my main point is that Matic IMO is currently the standout performer in the league. Just thought it was worth discussing as so many posters in here and elsewhere had written him off. Early days but still.

Whoever signed off on that sale in Chelsea should be fired. He has been immense for Man United so far.

Nothing racist in that chant. It's terrace humour and nothing more. Kick it out seem to be focusing on chants more and more. They took issue with the Morata chant from Chelsea fans. I wouldn't use the term they focused on in that song myself but Spurs fans use it week in, week out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

No number for dribbles? Sky always show the amount of dribbles. It's how I judge players.

Both chants are unacceptable, and also Spurs referring to themselves as Yids, although I get the empowerment thing, time for everyone to move on, they should also drop it.

The Lukaku chant feeds into a pretty naive racial stereotype regardless of how harmless it may seem. I've heard some pretty lame defence of it too, 'how can it be racist when it's a compliment'? Go and ask a random black dude does he have a massive Wong and see how they react.

I actually thought he was quite bad before the international break. Misplaced a lot of passes. Now the two games since, he's been spectacular.

Aguero for me. The greatest player in the league and he's showing it.

    What's that?

It is a table organised by expected goals(xG) given the chances created. People involved in these stats believe xG is the best method of predicting future performance. I would imagine many others believe it is black magic voodoo rubbish.

    Man Utd
    Gameweek 6

    # Interesting fact: David Beckham made his Pro debut 25 years ago today.

Welcome to Gameweek 6 of the Premier League.

Proceedings kick off at 12:30 with West Ham Vs. Tottenham being the curtain raiser in the second London derby in a row.

Tottenham will be looking to push into the top 4 with a patchy start to the league. They will be more hopeful owing to the fact that they will not have to play in Wembley this afternoon and Serge Aurier earns his first league start. However an interesting record reveals that Tottenham have only won 6 games in 50 K plus seater stadiums under Pochettino's reign. They will hope they can turn that into 7 today.

West Ham meanwhile are languishing in 17th after getting off to a diabolical start. However 3 of their defeats were all on the road and they will be hoping that they turn their fortunes as Bilvic anxiously looks on with his tenure as Hammers Manager under serious threat.

    Team news

West Ham (3-4-3) Hart; Fonte, Reid, Ogbonna; Zabaleta, Kouyate, Noble, Cresswell; Antonio, Chicharito, Arnautovic.
Substitutes: Adrian, Masuaku, Byram, Rice, Ayew, Carroll, Sakho.

Spurs (3-4-2-1) Lloris; Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen; Aurier, Sissoko, Dier, Davies; Eriksen, Alli; Kane.
Substitutes: Vorm, Trippier, Walker-Peters, Winks, Nkoudou, Son, Llorente.

Elsewhere in the league, Saturday will see Southampton face off against the Red Devils, can they be the ones to stop Manchester United in their tracks?

Leicester will be coming to Liverpool, with the reds looking for some revenge after being mercilessly dumped out of the Haribo cup mid week. Will Liverpool discover what a defence can do and get rid of their September scurvy?

Manchester City meanwhile visit the Palace, will they too be host to a cricket score or will the De-Boerless Crystal Palace rediscover their panache and get points on the board? They desperately need to, having lost all their games since the start of the campaign.

Stoke play Chelsea away, as Conte will hope to impose himself and get the papers to start talking about them again, and convince them it is not just a Manchester battle to the title but a triple threat before.

Tomorrow Brighton face off against Newcastle, both teams newly promoted. Newcastle will be looking to continue their impressive form, while Brighton look to impose themselves.

Finally Arsenal visit West Brom on Monday as Gibbs will face his boyhood club for the first time. Will Sanchez start or will he continue to warm the bench in this campaign? Arsenal will need to pull out the stops and register 3 points against a defensive Pulis side. It could be a game for Giroud to come off the bench and clinch the winner in what could be a close affair.

Things would go a lot better for West Ham if they didn't keep shoving Hernandez, one of the best finishers in the league, out wide to accommodate Andy Carroll.

Benteke picked up a suspected knee ligament injury today.

Dont think Palace have any other fit strikers.
