Klopp has spent 10 million less than Mourinho now

Interesting to see where the narrative goes now

Man Uniteds squad was assembled at a cost of £700 million compared to Liverpools at £400 million. That has to be part of the overall discussion, they didn't start on the same footing.

But I do expect Liverpool to close the gap to United. Sure its only 5 points anyway.

Klopp can keep spending all the money he wants if he keeps up his impressive success rate with signings for Liverpool. The amount of money he's spending isn't exactly a stick to beat him with considering the vast majority are successes.

They still might next season under Mourinho, but the difference in their progress in similar time frames is startling. City look quality in every department. Utd are falling short in a few areas.

Just on this. They didn't take over 2 clubs at a same level though. United are still at least another year behind City in their rebuild.

Pep joined with a squad who had finished 4th, 2nd, 1st in the 3 previous seasons to him joining. United in that time finished 5th, 4th and 7th. Never once even looking close to challenging the top of the league. The gap was even obvious last season as United finished 6th to City's 3rd.

Jose got an over the hill Rooney, a shambolic midfield and a bunch of transfers from LVG that had to be corrected. Pep got a prime Aguero, Silva and a soon to be prime De Bruyne. Go through the squads man for man and you'll see the difference. The only arguably world class player Jose got was a goalkeeper.

Not that Pep didn't have work to do with his squad but the work need to get United and City to the top of the table wasn't the same hence United are at least a season behind in their rebuild. Paying for the poor management over the Moyes/LVG seasons.

Should United finish 2nd or even 3rd this season that's great progress and sets up the club so that they should be capable of a real title challenge next season.

If we are here next season and United are 10-15 points off city then there will be plenty of reason to criticize Jose but for now he isn't doing too bad at all.

Considering klopps been at Liverpool roughly a year longer nothing will be said. Man Utd will spend another £200-300 million more than likely come December 2018.

Anyway its an apples to oranges comparison. Liverpool have sold two of their star players at their peak over the last 2-3 years and if the media are to be believed that will become three star players to be sold very soon..those players have to be replaced and that's not cheap. Man Utd haven't sold a star player at his peak since 2009.

Liverpool sell to buy. Man Utd buy to improve what they have.

Klopp is a one of a lads. He is going to get away with ****. Jose is a nerd. One mistake and they will pull him. That's life.

United have spent 87 cents to every dollar Pep has spent since arriving. IMO he's going about it the wrong way, it comes off as so whingey to try and portray United as underdogs. They are the richest club in the world ffs. It could partly be the media baiting him, but Jose doesn't come to a press conference without saying something rehearsed. His obsession with City would annoy me if I was a United fan.

What’s the reason Spurs and West Ham aren’t playing this weekend?

Something about the logistics of a Wemberly full house on New Years eve, they were scheduled to play tomorrow I think.

Odd that they couldn’t have changed it to today.

1-0 Chelsea, Rudiger, from a routine free kick, could be a long afternoon for Stoke.

    Liverpool
Stoke missing most of their CB help a lot in set pieces, was a cheap free kick too give away too.

    Liverpool 0-1 Leicester - Vardy.

That was Chelseas 13th headed goal in the league, the most by any side and St0ke have not conceded the most goals in the league.

    Liverpool
Drinkwater with a fantastic half volley into the top corner, 2-0 Chelsea after 10mins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

    Liverpool
3-0 chelsea, Pedro with a good finish and turn, it could be more, Moratas already missed a one on one with Butland.

Its not even a harsh score line on them, could be 4 or 5 but theyve no senior CBs fit and are getting a pasting a a result.

Chelsea barely out of 2nd gear here too which is handy considering we've arsenal 3 times in the next 3 weeks.

Stoke had a goal disallowed too earlier, Adam found Diouf sneaking in behind Alonso but he nearly caught the ball before finishing well, looked harsh in real time but the replays showed the officials made a good call.

One of the most comfortable games ive seen us play in a long time, Stoke have no fight left in them and its also one of the first games ive seen chelsea be somewhat ruthless.

Reckon Hughes' time there could be coming to an end?

They've Newcastle up next at home, I'd say they'll give him that game before making a call.

coming away to one of the top 6 with a depleted backline, its hard to judge someone on a game you'd be expected to lose anyway.

    Liverpool
Morata who is usually clinical when given chances, his missed two, one on ones from about 6 yard today, Butland has done well both times but in those positions, he should be doing much, much better, especially a CF with his quality.

Theyve been dire today, theyve not beat a London side since 2014, lost 11, drew 6 of the last 18, including today.

If Maguire doesn't hold ball up after Liverpool equaliser he doesn't get a yellow. Without that yellow he'd have pulled salah back and no goal gets scored. Should he have taken the red though?

Good point. Shows why its important to book players early for timewasting - it means they walk a tightrope later in the game and are hesitant to disrupt the game further..... not that the ref was anyway brave, he sat on the fence and also booked Can at the time.

    Liverpool
5-0 Chelsea, Zappacosta with a good hit on his left leg.

In truth, we've had enough chances to make this 7 or 8 but playing in 2nd gear all afternoon, you cant really complain, a very routine, one sided win.

What's annoying is that no one really gets punished in management for poor work, they just wait a bit and get a new job.

Players who fail tend to drop down, big club then smaller club, top division then lower division and they rarely get a second chance to move back up whereas managers do.

If Hughes gets sacked he'll just fall back into the rotation of old English managers and sign for a struggling mid-table team in a couple months time.

Nice to see Swansea getting the win today. Think Carvalhal could be a shrewd appointment for them.

Forster dropped for soton in goal. About time, Forster was a disgrace against spurs, waved at the cross for kanes header, didn't even try. Wasn't alone in the poor effort, but delighted peligrino grew a pair and dropped him.

Pulis still favourite with PP, weirdly. Say it could be a Carvahal-esque leftfield appointment (if there is one).

Never said Pep didn't have a better squad?

The disparity isn't as big as United fans claim when he came in though. The squad is still light in some areas too, (CM).

I'm sure Wrexham-born Hughes with over 70 appearances in a Welsh jersey would love this post :)

He didn't go to hospital and is being treated by United medical staff. So that is a good sign, but if it's a suspected concussion, he may miss Everton as a precaution.
