I wouldn't mind if we got a sinbin here. Might make it more of a workout.

Don't understand how that isn't more than a penalty

It was the way it was presented to the referee...!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

Nothing wrong with that tackle, came from an onside position

Lol! Yellow for that and nothing for the high tackle.

    Weird weird decisions here

    Ah here!!

Getting a yellow for a previous penalty.. because it couldn't have been for that tackle.

Ref saying it's for too many penalties.

    Was there a warning?

    No try,

Japanese crowd incredibly polite about that. Literally the anti-Welsh.

No there wasn't, but it was two high tackles in a row for Conway.

    Supposedly.

In a universe where that tackle was a high tackle.

    Southern hemisphere sook referees.

The Japanese hooker actually got lifted completely off the ground in that scrum :D

Earls turning terrible passes into line breaks. Unlucky to knock it on.

Earlsys on fire, godzilla is terrified

Quinn Roux is a good player. Nearly ready to come to Leinster I reckon

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,980 ✭✭✭Lucy8080

Treadwell did ...er ...well there ...to hold onto that ball below his knees.

Nah, not unless they dust the cobwebs off that trophy cabinet and that will be a while ;)

Is Marmion on to the wing again?

Marmion must have more playing time on the wing than at SH for Ireland.

Kilcoyne with both his own and everyone else's ears pinned back there.

Is Conway wearing gloves? What year is it?

JOD onto the pitch for the third time.

Joe is saying, "Yo, I hate to see you leave the bench, but I love to watch you go onto the pitch"

Bealham looked injured there, hopefully just winded.

Lads absolutely knackered. I suppose this is basically pre-season.

O'Halloran needs to do more there, should have tackled all 3 players somehow.

Some really good performances out there. Heat took it's toll at the end but very enjoyable.

Aus vScot. 4 1/2 mins left.

    Japan were a disappointment .

Ref saying it's for too many penalties.

Yeah, point was that it should have already been a yellow for illegally stopping a definite try.

  • Registered Users Posts: 837 ✭✭✭Subpopulus

Just looking through the stats there - Earls has now scored 9 tries this year (2016-2017), which is a new Irish record for one season. It was previously held by Dennis Hickie who scored 8 tries in 2003-2004.

Earls has now scored 26 tries for Ireland, still the fourth-highest all-time try-scorer, but it looks like he'll be up to second spot before long, assuming Tommy Bowe's Irish career doesn't miraculously take off again.

    Irish all-time try scorers
    BOD: 46
    Bowe: 30
    Hickie: 29
    Earls: 26
    Horgan: 21

Did Earls get the CJ prize against?

Should have been a penalty try you mean. Not necessarily also a yellow.

He definitely ****ed that up tho. Everyone else did their job, the full back is supposed to kill the space and come up into the line there. He just stood there waiting for the last man to come to him. Poor.

My understanding is it would be a yellow.
A penalty try must be awarded if the offence prevents a try that would probably otherwise have been scored. A player who prevents a try being scored through foul play must either be cautioned and temporarily suspended or sent off.

In practice though, have you seen a sin binning for every penalty try? It doesn't always happen under the way the laws are currently interpreted.

Anyway, really enjoyed how we opened that game. Incredibly ambitious from Ireland to play at that pace, we did things incredibly accurate with blistering pace in that heat. Very impressive. We looked ruthless until the heat took hold.

Scotland win moves them to 4th in the world rankings. Does that mean Ireland slip to 5th, or they're up to 3rd? Can't see the updated table anywhere.

Disagree totally. He had to take the ball - carrier and trust somebody inside him to get across or back to get the receiver. Three-in-one are kinda difficult you know!

I'm not criticising him taking the carrier, that's right, but as the ball was being shipped left he needed to come into the line and take the last man, otherwise it was always going to be open country for the winger. He just stood in the pocket and watched the ball hit the overlap.
