Just wondering, is there actually quotas put on the amount of As or Bs students can get in the Junior / Leaving Cert? I heard this before but I want to know if it's true? Does that mean that getting rechecks could be worth it if you think you should have got a much higher grade? Thanks x

    There are no quotas.
If you get over 85% in your paper, you will get an A.

Rechecks are worth it if there has obviously been some mistake, say, an F for a subject that you know you submitted a project worth 20% in and then did an exam. That would indicate that the project mark was the only one counted and a mistake was made by not adding in the marks from the exam paper.

Likewise, if all along you got As and Bs from a teacher who has experience marking and suddenly got a D in the exam, when you believe you answered everything well, then get a recheck on that, but in short, no, there are no quotas.

The bell-curve (which so many do not understand and think is a bad thing) means that roughly the same percentage of candidates get A grades each year. If you get 85% and over, you will get an A. This is so people cannot say your JC is worth less than last year's for example. The standard is maintained.
