Sub Njie makes it 2-0 to Marseille!

Another assist from Payet. His number of assists in 2018 is ridiculous.

Very important now that Arsenal don't lose the run of themselves. Get the win and the all important clean sheet and it's a very good result.

Forgotten just how good Payet is. Passing is excellent.

    Classic Arsenal defending.

That’s vintage Arsenal tbh. Too often they throw away good positions like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,200 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

    christ... well that was embarrassing.

Each of the three defenders involved successfully made absolute fools of themselves. monreal can't be that far off the line... Koscielny disaster, and Mustafi falling over at exactly the worst possible time - though in fairness can't be too hard on him, just massively unfortunate trying to get back to cover for Kos.

That's a super result for Atletico in the circumstances.

    Oh Xhaka...

Full-Time and Marseille win the first leg 2-0. Salzburg can have legitimate complaints about the first goal and being denied a penalty. They also rattled the woodwork in the second half. On a different night this could have been 2-0 to the away side but on the balance of play Marseille were the better side. Payet MOTM with a great display. Bouna Sarr and Luiz Gustavo had great games too. Salzburg's best player was their full-back Lainer.

Marseille favourites to progress now but still work to do. Wouldn't write the tie off yet.

The Salzburg tie isn't over. They showed enough that they can be still dangerous at home but the lack of the away goal will make it difficult.

Just saw the Griezmann goal. Hopeless defending from Arsenal.

Arsenal are going to Arsenal this, aren't they?

    Most Arsenal result ever....

No seriously, I don't like kicking a man when he's down, but if ever a game summed up probably the last 5/10 years of Arsenal under Wenger, it was tonight. Lots of promise, lots of possession, lots of pretty stuff, but no cut or edge, turning into false hope, and ultimately failing.
This was a game they should have won, enough chances to win 3 games.

Lovely bit of football justice. Athletico are the antithesis of Arsenal’s pretty yet utterly ineffective nonsense.

Atletico vs Arsenal has been turgid to watch thus far. As I say that Arsenal just create a good chance which lacazette pulled too far wide

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Salzburg vs Marseille not great so far either. Marseille having the better of things but both sides look nervous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,424 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Atletico seem content to play for a 0-0 here even though they are at home. Might get caught out yet.

Surely better to have a go at that Arsenal defence.

That Marlon Dingle is a tough ba5stard at centre back for Atleti

They certainly win the award for toughest looking squad with Costa, Simeone & his assistant who looks like he could snap wenger over his knee like a young sapling

Arsenal getting that booking after Atleti's constant nonsense is laughable.

    Who else? :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Far too easy no surprise with who scored it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,375 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Ospina went to ground hilariously early there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Half-Time between Salzburg and Marseille and it's 0-0. Very little going on in the game thus far. Best chance for Salzburg was a speculative shot that Pele spilled but Marseille have looked fairly comfortable. Been very scrappy and stop-start which is frustrating Salzburg. I'd still like to see Marseille offer more in the last third.

Bad miss from Germain after a lovely move involving him and Payet. Would have been a lovely goal had Germain been able to find the target.

1-0 Salzburg! Great run from Haidara who beats several Marseille players and fires past Pele. Game on.

Salzburg vs Marseille is a great watch now. Marseille looking very shaky and Salzburg fired up from the goal. Anything could happen in this one. Half an hour remaining.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

2-2 now! It's been coming. Salzburg have levelled the tie. Marseille in danger of caving like Lazio did. It was an O.G. from Sarr from a shot that was initially going wide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,329 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

That kind of foul i think should really be red

Monreal survived a near death experience with that tackle he avoided

sad to see Arsenal going out in a whimper

    Such a gutless performance

Salzburg have been excellent second half!

Thauvin wanted a peno for handball. It hit the defender's arm but I think it would have been harsh on Salzburg.

Marseille's big players haven't shown up tonight. Payet, Thauvin, Ocampos, Njie, likely will need one of them to step up and be a hero if they are to make the final.
