Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ironically, most other clubs may well be rooting for Liverpool, given Hoffenheim's billionaire owner basically manufacturing their success.

Tough draw for Celtic, a sore one for the fans as Astana are probably the furthest away

I'll be interested to see how RB Leipzig & Red Bull Salzburg will be viewed if they get drawn in the same group or meet in a knockout stage.

Should be 2 up at least. Nice have been bad.
Can't believe Emre (formerly of Newcastle & Inter) is still playing at Istanbul Basaksehier.

An early goal in the second half for Celtic, and they could well end up winning by 4 or 5. Astana's heads will drop.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Napoli have been so sloppy & wasteful up against a very poor Nice performance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Nice down to 9 in a matter of seconds. Amazed they are still in this tie after the last 80 minutes.
Saint Maximin is the only one who impressed, so they just subbed him :pac:

Ýes they have been impressive of what is in from of them but they will be playing teams of another level in the group stages. For 2 commentators who are meant to be impartial (according yo George) there not doing a great job of it

Never implied that it won't be a step up.
Just think Celtic as a team have gotten stronger and play some attractive football tbf. Obviously won't be as adventurous in the group stages but have some great pace in attack even though they are missing two players up front.
The French lad in midfield they signed looks a tidy purchase too.
Never thought I'd say it but credit to Rodgers :P

Obviously, the quality of the opposition wasn't particularly high this evening, but this year's Celtic look a much more serious side than previous years. Good luck to them, I hope they make an impact in Europe this year.

Easy to play that way when you are up by 2 at half time as they didn't play like that in the first

They missed two big chances early on.

What's the story with steaua Bucharest, using fcsb & a new crest?
Did they go bust or something

The army are talking about starting up their football team again and Steaua was the Army team until it split in 98.

The army tried to sue for crest, name, honours and UEFA Ranking, Steaua lost the crest and name but kept the honours, and UEFA ranking.

So in March this year changed their name from SC Fotbal Club Steaua București SA to SC Fotbal Club FCSB SA

Looks like Nice's Champions League dream is about to end. I can see them winning the second leg but I can't see them keeping a clean sheet.

Quoting this from the United thread. Likely pots if games go as expected tomorrow night.
    Sqkw3AP.jpg?1

I'd take Shakhtar, Basel and Celtic.

Personally I normally love being drawn against the top sides, makes the competition more exciting but this year I'd love the easiest group possible.

Maybe Benfica from group A to add a bit of spice but they should still be manageable. The easiest possible with the least travelling from pot 3 and then ideally I'd love either United or Liverpool to be drawn against Celtic for Pot 4. United against them because I do love the big nights up in Parkhead, and Liverpool because the Rodgers connection would make them saucy games.

The really interesting thing about that table is how in my opinion at least Pot 2 seems to have much more strength in depth than Pot 1. Some brutal potential draws there for Spurs or Liverpool to get from Pot 3.

    Liverpool could have something like..

    Real
    PSG
    Liverpool
    Celtic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,117 ✭✭✭jacool

Real Madrid cannot draw Barcelona, Atletico or Sevilla, which immediately halves the odds of any English team getting them! Benfica are dodging Porto while its the same for Monaco-PSG and Bayern and Dortmund. You could almost predict the groups as Chelsea dodge the 4 English clubs in the middle pots.
Looks as if both of this year's finalists will have an English side in their respective groups.
    I'll go for
REAL MADRID - MANCHESTER UNITED - BASEL - APOEL
JUVENTUS - PORTO - LIVERPOOL - RB LEIPZIG this would be tough even to fall-ify for the Europa League from

    1/5 chance United Get Real

Edit: Or even a 1/5 chance Real get United. 1/7 from United's POV. I don't know where that leaves the real odds of us getting them. Maybe 6/1?? :D
