Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A sign of how football has changed.

Huge night of CL football last night and tonight, and the 2 Milan giants are playing a derby game in Serie A instead.

Liverpool have galloped to a 3-0 lead v City.

2-0 Barcelona. Another O.G. Manolas unlucky.

Pique makes it 3-0 Barca. Tap in.

I'd say the Barca tie is, but the EPL Battle isn't yet.

Liverpool are sitting back, and will probably do this for rest of half since Salah went off.

If City were to get a goal, Pool will get very edgy, and a 2nd wouldn't be out of the question.

Like one of the commentators said, if City score an away goal here then a 2-0 win in the return would see them through. There is nothing insurmountable about that at all, not against a side with recent history of throwing away 3-0 leads.

If this game goes to 3-1 Liverpool's knees will get very wobbly.

    Dzekooooooooooooooo

    3-1. Lifeline.

From a lifeline to a flatline.

    Suarez makes it 4-1.

Barca have this competition won, I knew it since August, getting 2 OGs tonight just confirms it.

Yeah it's quite depressing. Must be the most underwhelming set of quarter-final second legs in history.

Lack of character and personality from City when the chips were down tonight. They've more often flattered to deceive in this competition since they've got their money.

Bring on the semies. Find it impossible to call this year.

Those Barca goals were dog ugly tonight. Very unBarca like but it's nice to see them not relying on Messi every night

Will be made on Friday the 13th

Have Liverpool and Bayern ever played in the CL? Weird it's two sides I can't remember facing off but I'm guessing they must have at some point.

Ger Canning talking about the emphatic finish from 'Loo-ey' Suarez.

Even as somebody who only cares about GAA, how the f**k can he not know that name?

    Howard Gayle. Check him out.

A huge difference in the game tonight and an EPL game, was the refereeing.
This ref (and CL refs in general) allow tackling, allow contests, and there was no point lying around and looking for soft penalties as would have been awarded in an EPL game.
There were several situations where City in particular had ball in tight spots in the Liverpool area, and with Mike Dean or Bobby Madley it would have been worth kicking out at a defender and throwing yourself to the ground.
Refreshing really.... even Sterling dragging the ball back against a prone Robinson was waved away.

1981 Semi Final Liverpool went through on away goals

That's the tie I'd love to see next though, if Liverpool can hold firm in the return leg next week. Also avoids the possibility of another all-Spain final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,055 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Do we think all the neutrals want an all-Spanish final?

    Messi v Ronaldo?

I'm thinking most would, unless they are English or German and want to see an English or German team in the final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,610 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

I mean it would be near perfect.

How much longer do we have with the 2 of them at the peak of their powers? I'd love to see them go toe to toe in another champions league final.

In truth they are the two best teams in the competition as well.

Well, since it has never happened, a Barca - Real final and indeed time is running out for one that will have Messi v Ronaldo (never mind age, they are also both topfit at the same time now) i trust the UEFA to make it happen this year.

Just too bad it is played in that terrible Kiev stadium.

Neuer back training with Bayern today. Just in the time for the semi-finals. Makes them stronger again.

That's rare opposing fans applaud player from another team. Funnily enough last time that probably happened was when Brazilian Ronaldo had a great game against man u at old trafford.

Bale got it a few weeks ago in China :pac:

Yeah, definately have both sides well ahead of Bayern. Bayern are dismantling a lot of teams - but they're also not being challenged at all. The German league is basically them, and then everyone else - especially with Dortmund being a shadow of their former selves. And in the CL, the only genuinely good team they've had to play was PSG in the group stages. They won the home leg 3-1, but lost the away leg 3-0.

They're very good, obviously, but their status has been inflated by the quality of the opposition they've actually faced.

Chinese people are very civil though, no surprise they applauded Bale.
They are a crap football nation and would have loved to have seen a star playing so well.

Its different when Real Madrid fans applaud a Barca player after he has humiliated their team in the Bernabeu.

Looks like Roma may be going for 3 at the back.
Roma XI: Alisson; Fazio, Manolas, Jesus; Florenzi, Nainggolan, De Rossi, Strootman, Kolarov; Schick, Dzeko.

Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen; Semedo, Pique, Umtiti, Alba; Roberto, Busquets, Rakitic, Iniesta; Messi, Suarez.

Update: Good chance gone begging there. Schick heads wide.

Poor game this. Both sides constantly giving the ball away. Liverpool look nervy and incapable of stringing a few passes together. They really need a decent player in the middle to hold onto the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

De Rossi scores from the spot! Roma need one more!

Barcelona are having a nightmare, playing utter rubbish.
Their away form in the Champions league over the last few years has been very poor.
