Looks like a clean sweep for English sides this week, all fairly convincing wins too. A distinct difference to recent years struggles, good for competitiveness of competition if it continues.

edit: posted before liverpool ruined it for England

Can't really argue with Verts getting the 2nd yellow for that.

Damn right. Liverpool losing and drawing bug games is absolutely the kind of football most fans want to see. Long live the Klopp. ;)

Have to hand it to Spurs, theyve got the best result of all the English teams in this round and set themselves up nicely in the group, its always vital to win your first game of the campaign, especially if its at home.

You need a balance of mental all out atatcking and high pressing and being able to organise a defence.

Spurs have got the balance pretty much spot on, Klopp, is far from that, although not getting Van Djik probably scuppered that plan there should have been a Plan B as Southampton told them where to go early in the window.

Just read his excuse and i am not sure if i should post it here or just straight go to the humour thread....

    Berizzo:
First time i threw away the ball we were winning and i wanted to break up Liverpool's counter attack. I shouldnt have done that, My bad.
2nd time we were losing but i wanted to make up for my mistake in the first half and the time i wasted when i threw away the ball.
Jurgen Klopp did understand that after i explained it to him, but the ref didnt.

    :D

Which is not correct as he did it both times in the 2nd half when Liverpool were 2-1 up

Surprised to see TV3 have picked a game with no English team, especially with (high irish fanbase) Liverpool playing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

Thought the reason would be a 1700 kick off but no, Spartak - Pool is at 1945

    Very surprised.

There have been occasions in the past where there have been belting games on (involving non-English teams) but they showed a nothing game like Utd v Cluj or Aalborg.

That Dortmund v Madrid game should be a good 'un.

Can't be giving love to City or Pool. Can't be having that. Dortmund/Madrid will be good though. Shame RTE couldn't take a leaf and show PSG/Munich or even Atletico/Chelsea. CSKA/United will be an absolute stinker, even more so with it being in Russia.

Yeah thought the Atletico/Chelsea game was the obvious one

All eyes on Dortmund tonight. They're definitely running into Madrid at the right time. A home win tonight will make this group seriously interesting.

Reminded me of Ronaldinhos one at the bridge.
Still Bale's by far my favourite tonight.

Just showed the reverse angle - was it a dive? Didn't see contact with the ball.

looked to me like he'd cleared Dortmund defender before he hit the ground amateur dramatics style.

    And I'm a Bale fan

Didnt help that they had to take Werner off after 32 minutes because he couldnt handle the noise of the crowd any longer.
