Diet Advice

Does anyone have any tips on sticking to a diet, finding motivation etc. I suffered with binge eating and bulimia on and off for many years so I can't eat a little bit of junk here and there, I either have to completely cut out all trigger foods, which are cereals, bread, coffee, sweets, basically everything bar a small list. I lost weight recently but unfortunately went off this routine and ended up binging and purging for over two months. I would love to get back on track so am just looking for any advice on the motivational side! I am aware that this is not the right attitude to have with food, but having been bullied all through school my confidence is extremely low and i'd rather eat my "safe foods" rather than risk the bulimia starting up again. I will be seeing a counsellor soon to get to the route of my issues but for now any advice will really help me!!

Could you make an appointment with a nutritionist? It sounds like theres more to this than just needing to find the right motivation to stick to a diet, youre not just an overweight person trying to lose a few pounds you have a genuine eating disorder and food addiction which you can only work through with the help of specialists, counsellors and nutritionists. You dont have a lack of motivation, you have an illness. I hope it works out for you and you can overcome this soon. x

I have the same issues and I am working through them with CBT. It's really helping. I felt powerless around food but I'm slowly regaining the power back! I think it would benefit you as it sounds like you are struggling with the same issues! Find a good therapist and you will get there!

Can I suggest a dietician rather than a nutritionist? A dietician is a fully qualified medical professional whereas anyone can call themselves a nutritionist.

I wasnt aware a nutritionist wasnt qualified. I hope OP knew what I meant. An experienced professional to help her create meal plans and work with her to get her diet and nutrition on track.

Oh yeah i knew what you meant I was adding to your post rather than correcting you, sorry if it came across otherwise.
I think some nutritionists have qualifications but there's no way of knowing whereas a dietician has full qualifications and is properly certified.

There's a Nutrition and Diet sub-forum under the Fitness forum here, which I have found helpful. Lots of people there who can give advice and motivation. You could check it out, as well as going to a dietician for the professional advice.
