Looking for help with new PC build

Hi there. Its been four years since my last build so I think its time I looked at a new one. From my current PC my GTX 1080, two WD Black 4tb drives and CDRW will be making the move to the new build so the only storage I'll be needing is an SSD for the windows install.

I could reuse my case but I'm kind of in the mood for something new. Also my current cases dimensions are H-44cm D-50cm W-19cm which is fine but I could possibly do with something a wee bit smaller. I certainly couldn't go bigger at the very least. For motherboard I'd kind of like to go Asus for ease of building with a water cooler for the CPU. Also a mobo with an isolated usb port for audio would also be helpful.

Beyond that I have no idea. Should I go Intel or Ryzen? What should I buy and where from? For price I'd put €1000 as the ceiling with a bit of wiggle room if necessary. But given how much I'm harvesting from my current pc I'm hoping I can see some savings.

Any suggestions?

Is this just for games? What's your current setup? And also, what model monitor do you have - is it 1080/1440/4k, 60/144hz....

For gaming primarily but it will also be my everyday desktop. My monitor is a 165hz 1440p G-sync Acer Predator.

On a panel like that I would take the 7700K. Yes, Ryzen is better value and may be a better run in a few years but I'm guessing you're not the kind of person that waits the best part of a decade before upgrading again. At the moment the 7700K is the top dog for games by a fair whack in terms of the general consumer level CPU's.

A Ryzen 1700 isn't a bad shout either though, the framerates are pretty solid but not as good as the 7700K which wouldn't matter on a 60hz panel, but it really does on that Predator.

6700K shouldn't be dismissed; €30-40 cheaper for near-enough same performance but runs much cooler.

Thanks. Quick qeastion though is their any value in swaping that 6700k for a 7700k? They are so close together in price. Also where would you recommend mounting the radiator on the case? Rear or top?

Also can I save myself money here by deactivating my copy of windows 10 pro and transferring the licence over to my new pc?

7700k is maybe 3-5fps faster, but runs 10-20C hotter:

Radiator placement won't matter with a blower card, just make sure it's exhausting outwards & through the radiator.

I'll likely be doing the build this month. Any final advance? Also is transferring my window 10 pro licence possible? If not where should I buy a copy? Amazon won't shop Win10 to Ireland.

I purchased Windows 10 license online from the microsoft store. It gave me an activation code that I used on one PC, then transferred to another PC.

Not all licenses are transferable though. For example, OEM installed Windows will not be transferable. See this article for details.
