My boss used to go to that place. He was an old dude in his 60's. A filthy animal. Reading some of the reviews online I can see why he liked the place.

I met my former long-term partner in the Boilerhouse back in 2000. We were together for almost 10 years and remain the best of friends. So it is actually possible to meet someone worthwhile there.

That said, 95% of the encounters in the BH are for quickie sex hook up.

Basically, you buzz the door to get in. Fri and Sat nights are the most popular, especially with younger men. You then go down a corridor to the counter where you pay and get a towel and condoms and sachets of lube and a locker key. Then you go into the changing room, strip off and lock away your clothes and possessions. You put the towel around you and then go into the shower. That is the ground floor.

On the first floor, there is the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna where you strip off to use. This is where a lot of guys eye each other up and check each other out. The smoking area is also on this floor.

On the third floor are the private booths where the action happens. There is also a mirror maze and a sling. At least there used to be. It’s been about 5 years since I was last there. Play safe. Also, don’t turn up too drunk or they will turn you away.

Sounds like fun - what time he's there would you know?

So I went - and how good a time you have really is down to what kind of person you are (or what mood you are in at the time). I got no hassle from no one, I was approached a few times but wasnt interested so I shook my head, then I met a hottie in the jacuzzi and had a ball. Will defo go again. If you are looking for quick sex with strangers defo go, but if you are looking for stimulating conversation and long term friendship probably best to stay away.

Going to your local gay bath house looking for those things means you probably have worse problems.

Well, I met a long-term partner in the BH and we were together for the best part of a decade. So it IS possible to meet someone meaningful in a gay sauna but very unlikely. We met purely by chance.

Ive met some really nice guys in there and had fun, thats why I went.
A friend of mine did actually meet a guy in there some years back and they had a relationship and no it wasnt JupiterKid.

The Boilerhouse is what it is, guys go in looking to have sex with other guys.

So, you're essentially looking for advice around cheating on your wife?

    Probably the wrong forum.

Yeah nobody here is going to tell you the best way to cheat on your partner, regardless of sexuality.

Sure is the boiler house not full of married men??

I don't know that the op was looking for cheating tips.

He asked about the boiler house.

He did give info about his marital status.
If he hadn't would the people who liked the last 2 posts have replied to him in a different manner.

OP: there have been many posts about the boiler house on here before, they also have a website so a search should give you answers.

In terms of gay saunas, do customers undergo health checks, no.
Do they only allow in the best looking and fittest guys, no.

Will everyone have fresh minty breath, no.

There’s a story -possibly a myth I dunno-that an elderly priest died there one night and other priests were there to do the last rites.

An internet search tells me that that man died in a sauna off aungier street.
    Fr Cosgrave was his name.

I always thought that was an urban legend but it turns out it was a story that's just been told so many times by so many different people it's become embellished

Yes, the priest dying in a gay sauna story is very true. It happened in the 1990s in a (now long gone) sauna called Incognito off Aungier St. Two other priests there administered the last rites.

Thanks IMME and Mr. Frame and to other responders. I'm not asking about cheating on my wife and if I was I don't extect to be judged here. I'm just interested to know what to expect in the boilerhouse and if its a place I could meet like minded guys without any judgement. I have checked the website but it doesn't giove much info.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,201 ✭✭✭ongarboy

Like minded doesn't really need to come into it. Most punters there will just hook up with very little if any chit chat so you don't need to reveal anything about yourself if you choose to visit and no-one there will be judging (well..apart from how hot the talent is...). It's very busy after pub/club closing times at weekends. I'm not sure about other times.

Have you been to any gay sauna? do you understand what it is?
It's not a sewing circle where you sit around talking about your feelings. If someone fancies you they'll make it obvious and you can have sex with them if you wish and vice versa. It's that simple, nobody asks you about your background or what you had for breakfast. If you're bottoming, for the love of god, clean yourself out.

Is there an equivalent BH in London city centre?

In the U.K. they’re like the boiler house but serve alcohol. Some are light night clubs and have dark rooms more are like saunas.

A good website to use is squirt.org

London has lots of gay saunas, as do most large cities around the world (excepting the Middle East, most of Africa and some other very homophobic places).

On the Continent, esp in Germany and Austria, many gay saunas are huge, have full swimming pools, jacuzzis, masseur service and bars. Babylon in Cologne is a particularly good one.

Apparently the BH was so busy on Saturday that the queue was flowing the door. I just thought I'd mention that.

Of course it is. It’s a guaranteed way to get the jump without the awkward “can you please leave” the following morning

Not to mention all the married and closer lads on stags and nights out that are looking for nsa

Is there any cruising bar equivalent to the Boilerhouse in Dublin?
I'm quite body conscious so the idea of having to go naked in a sauna scares me, especially when there's no bar on site to help lose one's inhibitions.

You'd be better going to Sweatbox on Fridays at the hub, bar, dancefloor and darkroom set up. Or perhaps Daddi at Tramline, which I think is on once a month but you'd have to google it, Daddi would attract a beary crowd.

Is there many non bear types at Daddi?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I've only ever been when it was in Turks head, lots of different types of guys there and it was mad busy, they sometimes have live porno on the stage, I remember Rocco Steel gave a 'performance' there a while ago and I think they had Francois Sagat before. And then I went once when it was in Tramline, but it was the night of the Papal visit and was kind of quiet. Mostly an older crowd that night. You'd have to go and judge for yourself I guess.

If you have particular brands of lube or poppers that you like, bring them along.
If you have your own nozzle for douching, bring it as well.

Hi sorry for jumping in but the boilerhouse is a name I haven’t heard in a while! In the late 90s I worked in the tech side of the hospitality industry and as I was the youngest staff member and the last in I was given all the gay jobs , the job would be phoned in and automatically “ash, job in for you “ it didn’t matter if I was trained or not , I’d be trained before I went:) . I remember thinking it was a pub and standing outside calling the office to say I’m here but can’t see it :)

Anyway I thought I’d share as a measure of how far the country had moved on in 20 years OR NOT?
